Just wanted to share one of my favorites :) My parents planted this Japanese Red Cut Maple Tree in 1988…. Yes she’s really 38 years old. And I’ve watched it grow for 23 of those years now. I went to Home Depot this morning before work. I got all of them for $5 each. The one without a pot was laying on a shelf and the woman told me I could have it. What are my chances of it living? My oldest hoya that I already killed once and managed to bring back. I believe it was bugs then too. Just not sure which bugs. So after a disappointing day at work. I decided that I was finally going to drive over to Home Depot. I hate driving on that side of town. If bumper cars and the Indy 500 had a baby it would be that side of town. I have been seeing all over Facebook that Home Depot had Hoyas. They do!!!! 😍 So many at different prices. I didn't find the one I was looking for but I did pick up some cuties. I also got a echeveria article frost at Lowes the other day. I saw a woman on Facebook that used a metal ring as a trellis for a hoya. I attached it with the hook. I just wish I could find somewhere to hang it 😕. Orchid experiment..... She's in a self watering pot but it's not set up like a self watering pot. No wick. I'm using the bottom part to catch the water. I'm using distilled water. I put a layer of the chunky bark and then a thin layer of leftover live spaghum moss i had leftover. Then a layer of the chunky bark to hold her in place so she doesn't fall over. I left some of her roots exposed so I could keep an eye 👁 on them. After doing some Google search I see now they use moss and bark. I thought they only used bark. I want to see if the live is better than that other dried up stuff you buy from Lowe's. Went exploring in the FL Panhandle to see #carnivorousplants ! These sites were by far the largest that I have ever been to. The #sarracenia #pitcherplants) sprawled as far as I could see at one of the sites in the Apalachicola National Forest! I primarily saw Sarracenia flava, or the yellow pitcher plant. More specifically lotsa Sarracenia flava var. rugelii & Sarracenia flava var. rubricorpora! I was absolutely delighted to have seen rubricorpora in the wild for the first time; the red of rubricorpora is just absolutely stunning. At one of the sites in Blackwater River State Forest I also saw Sarracenia leucophylla, or the white-topped pitcher plant, growing amongst the flava! And, of course, a whole lot of Sarracenia psittacina, or the parrot pitcher plant, growing underneath the tall sarrs! They can be very tricky to avoid stepping on because they grow in such numbers! One of the highlights for me, though, was finding Pinguicula planifolia! I cannot remember the common name of it right now, but its one of Florida's native butterworts .. And my personal favorite! I had a little side quest tonight while it was pouring outside. I had picked up these small plastic moss poles and figured I would try to attach one of my snow queen cuttings to see if I can train it to climb. It was my first time packing my own moss pole- I just used a simple sphagnum moss, soaking it for about 15 minutes before ringing it out. Not soaking wet, but definitely wet. I lightly tied the vine to the pole with the roots into the moss. I also used the Craft aroid mix from Grow queen. I’ve recently switched all my aroids to this mix and the plants seem to enjoy it as much as I do😂 A very fun first experience. Ive been absolutely loving my plants! I do gotta say…..everything about them is highly addicting. Hello everyone, I hope you’re having a great day and you and your plants are growing. I visited the county master gardeners’s nursery this morning. I bought another giant plum ginger and a passion vine. I am going to start building a couple of these tables for my plants. I thought I would share it here. Here’s what they use in their nursery, two by fours and hardware cloth which is quarter inch chicken wire supported by cinder blocks. The dimensions are 8 foot long by 22 inches wide .
