Is it okay to use both good and mediocre soil for one pla...

I repotted Twilight because her pot was a little bit busted, and her soil quality was poor looking. Her new pot is roughly the same size, and I added a bamboo stick to climb on.

I was short on my usual potting soil, which is Miracle-Gro potting mix, so I 'borrowed' some seemingly mediocre soil from an unused pot and layered it on top. So, the top layer is the borrowed soil, and the bottom layer is the potting mix, basically.

To add detail, the mediocre soil is coarse and was previously used by succulents, but it doesn't seem to hold a lot of nutrients.

Is this okay? I want to know what you guys think.

I reuse soil all the time. Unless I think it was the reason a plant was sick, I usually keep it as "just in case" soil.

You can always add nutrients or fertilizer to make sure for the "mediocre" soil if you're really concerned.
I sometimes โ€žrecycleโ€œ soil too and am interested in the feedback you get here.

Hi!
I had a tough experience using Miracle Gro and replaced it when I researched that product.
Miracle Gro soil had bacteria in it and created pest ๐ŸฆŸ problems.
Yours might be fine. Maybe what I bought was a bad batch.
When you get a little money, try to buy a better, higher quality mixed soil, if you can!
I, myself, wouldn't use another plant's used soil. Who knows what it contains?
@CutePolypremum thanks for letting me know! I just received a fungus problem again on my monstera ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™€๏ธ also, three of my plants have spider mite infestations.

What do you buy?

Hi!
It's early here, haven't had coffee yet, but I'll be happy to send you a photo and more details of what soil we use sometime later in the day. All the plants seem to love it! ๐Ÿ˜™

Hi there Moonstone!
As promised, going to hopefully include a photo or two of that potting soil I use.
Please read the directions carefully first!
I didn't and put the soil directly into my pot with the plant and just watered away.
As I was watering her, it suddenly became just like a volcano erupting! This went on for a while and there was a mess everywhere ๐Ÿ˜ณ ๐Ÿ˜†
Anyway, make sure that you use a large salad bowl or something else of that size to prepare it and THEN put it into your pot. If you have any soil left over, spread it out to dry, stirring it a couple of times a day until it's completely dry. Then, put it in an air tight bad. It'll be good as new and you can use it when you need to.
I've been thinking about your situation. Does your family exchange gifts?Would you be comfortable to ask for a gift certificate from Amazon?
They could pool their money so it would be less expensive for them.
Would they be open to that or is it too late?
I've tried different soils but for all my plants ๐Ÿชด, this has been the one they really like ๐Ÿ‘.
I bought it through Amazon.
I think that you'll really see a difference!
Please thoroughly clean out the old soil, get rid of it and sterilize your pots before using them.
I really hope helps, dear โค๏ธ Moonstone!

* put it into an airtight BAG!

@CutePolypremum alright. Also, I like to buy things locally (like at local stores), but I'm fine with using Amazon. Thank you for your recommendation because I'm currently dealing with soil problems (especially when the fungus made a comeback for my monstera).
@Catplantaddict
Awesome ๐Ÿ‘Œ
It might be at your local shops. I'm sure that it's not exclusive to Amazon!
Here's a thought.
Research it locally in your area to see if they have it.
It may even be possible for the store to order it. I'm thinking of places like Lowes, nurseries, and am sure you know many more.
And/or, if all else fails, it probably could be directly ordered from the company that makes it
@CutePolypremum got it! I'll try not to forget.
