I was so excited to be able to get out of the house today...

I was so excited to be able to get out of the house today, and on the way home from the doctor, my mum stopped at a local nursery. She got some gorgeous little show stoppers! Then she just happened to magically find herself at checkout with a plant I’d be wanting for… forever! 🤔 Myers Asparagus Fern… ferns and I are just barely starting to like each other, they’ve been my sadly misunderstood plants that I sorely have attempted to understand… I’m sure they all have a few thorny - ferny fiddle head love hardships.. 🙃 (I know, me and side rants..) okay, it was so weird. We really had no idea who put the fern up there. I was in a separate part of the plants when I heard my mom laughing, saying, “It’s not hers and she didn’t know where it came from, but maybe I do?” I said no, but I want one! So my mom was an angel and just said…”it made itself into the cart. How could I say no? It was coming home with me whether or not we knew it.”… “so NOW stop cooing over the plants! They can go to other people’s homes that will love them too! 🤣” #TheWateringHole #TheThread #HappyPlants #PlantsMakePeopleHappy #PlantAddict #NewGrowth #PropagationStation #SucculentLove #PlantTherapy #GrowLights #OrchidLovers #PetsAndPlants #MonsteraMonday #PlantCorner #BeforeAndAfter #PestControl #PlantShelfie #RarePlants #PlantID
So this is first real season. I planted these from some old planters to these planters last year. All but the tree and metal planters those are three years old and will be going on to the next project I’ve been waiting on. 🙃 but I’m so happy the strawberries are coming in nicely, the raspberries have grown like crazy! And the blueberries 🫐 are slowly waking up but they are looking beautiful! Sorry not much going on! I hope everyone is enjoying their spring planting and the beautiful weather for those that are lucky enough to have it. 😉🌸🩵🫶🏻🙃🐝🍎 If anyone wants to share what they are planting this year I’d love to hear! I love to hear and see all the creativity and enthusiasm in the plant communities! Share when you can! #sharewhenyoucan
Quite the haul. Congrats to your mom as well. I myself still don't have a garden, so no outside planting here. As for inside, I will see to that once I hopefully have a bit more space. There will be a plant/ gardening flea market in my community soon, where I hope to free up some shelf space (as if: even if some bigger plants go, I prepared several props for the market as well, more than I will likely be able to sell 😅). But let's entertain the thought i will find some space: I'm planning for a new bail plant from seed, as well as cherry tomatoes, mini bell peppers, chili and experiment with some left over ginger. Some of which I hope I can put outside in pots in the back yard during summer or at least gift my mother to plant in the garden later in the year.
Love the enthusiasm.

Oh, and, because, I can't help myself: asparagus ferns aren't ferns btw. So if you truly want to get into them, they aren't the best pick 😀 I love my own fluffy asparagus "fake" fern way more than my "true" Boston fern, so what do I know. 🤷‍♀️ enjoy the spring and happy gardening. 🪻
@Idplantthat @MusicalRedmint That is so funny how that happens and how it’s such a shared experience among us. I too have no idea where this hoya callistophylla came from today! I’m only assuming they followed me home with sad puppy dog eyes and then I couldn’t just turn I away could I? 😂

I did a bit of garden work, getting my new (to me) strawberry pot filled with strawberries! I’ve never used one before, but my husbands boss gave him the pot. Nice big ol terracotta 👍

And then once my daughter is home from school I’m excited to get this mushroom grow kit started! I was really torn between this “spray and go” lions mane kit, and a shiitake log kit, in which you innoculate a hardwood log outside and let them grow there. Oooh choices! I settled on lions mane because I wanted that mushroom more, but I might have to eventually go back and get that shiitake log kit too 😁😍
@Idplantthat @MusicalRedmint I’m also having quite a nice time with my birds nest fern! And thats coming from someone who has also killed a lot of ferns indoors, even though they volunteer in my garden no problem 😌
@DreamMachine good choice on the lionsmane. Not only have I heard they are delicious, but as of yet, I've only ever gifted shiitake to people who have failed with them. Might have been them, though. ADHD for the win!
I've had terrific experiences with all things oyster mushrooms though. Pink, king, golden (very tasty). I've wanted to buy a new set to "prepare" for the warmer months for weeks now, but I'm to scatterbrained. And the place where I grew them before (office/guest room), is used more frequently this year and I don't want me or anybody else breathing in to many spores/sleep in a too co2 heavy room
@DreamMachine ooo definitely let me know how that lions mane mushroom kit goes 😍 we forage for mushrooms every year! One of my favorite foods lol.

I too have a love hate with ferns… I had a Boston fern a few years ago that just exploded with little leaf droppings everywhere and I got so sick of it I just put it outside.. not my finest moment.. 🤣
@MusicalRedmint @DreamMachine Ooh! That’s fantastic to know, especially since I’m not as familiar with ferns. I probably shouldn’t touch them as much as I do, but I love the feel of these non-fern, fake ferns. But I think I’ll wait until after the garden season. I’ve been having a great time with my herb garden. I must say, the ginger and turmeric were surprisingly fast-growing. I didn’t realize it’s better to grow them for a year and wait until the second or third year to harvest more. It’s quite a revelation! What are you planning to sell, Susann? That sounds like you’re a creative person with some really exciting ideas! Have either of you two ever grown the spoon 🥄 tomatoes? I actually still have a bucket of mini peppers 🌶️ from last year in my house. 😂💡 @DreamMachine I wish I could say more or relate more to you and @MusicalRedmint, but I’m not a fan of mushrooms. 🍄 They’re cool little creatures, but their texture is like bananas. I love growing them, but I’m not a fan of the fruit, so I just do it for family and friends (on the bananas 🍌). 😂 I’m starting some plants for my mom and sister from seeds I just planted. I ran out of pots, and I was shocked to see the prices on Amazon compared to my local nursery. Cow compost pots that they can plant directly into their soil were double the price on Amazon. I’m just a little shocked by how expensive plant materials are becoming. Is it just me? 😂 Oh, and Nadia! I’m planning to ship next week. I’ll let you know if anything changes, but we should be good!
@MusicalRedmint I’ve heard both lions mane and many types of oyster are the most user friendly 🤞

And I’m thinking about getting a small grow tent just for mushrooms for just that reason! …as I dive head first into a new obsession. 🫠
@Stephazar ooh man I once had a magnificent Boston fern. He was such a beast and I’m so mad I can’t find any good pictures of him, I think I had a different phone back then but this was like 10 years ago…then he got scale and I was massively unprepared for that, and not in a good headspace, and he unfortunately didn’t make it 😔 I will have another go sometime in the future!

That’s awesome you forage! I need to find someone to take me because I am not experienced in telling edible apart from toxic 😆 So I usually ‘forage’ At my farmers market 😉
@Idplantthat thats ok, not everyone loves mushrooms! 😁 🍄 🍄‍🟫 And I’m the same with bananas…not a fan texture (or flavor) wise.

When I met my husband, he didn’t really much care for them either, but I’m turning that around slowly…mostly with the crunchier textured ones, but also because of the amazing health benefits! I also have both lions mane and Turkey tail supplements that give you benefits without having to eat them 😉

And plant supplies are expensive! I made my own biodegradable pots out of toilet paper and paper towel tubes!
