I am THRILLED that my little-hoya-that-could has its first bloom!!! She’s a 1 year old (from cuttings off of a much older plant) that has just defied expectations in growth. And the smell is….DRUMROLL PLEASE…feet! 1000 year old feet! Lolol Or possibly swampa$$? Volleyball socks that were left in a bag for four weeks? A decomposing body? 😆😆🤣🤣🤢🤢🥴😵😵💫It’s sooooo bad! Lol!! I’m torn because it’s the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen! What’s crazy is that if you put your nose to the blooms, it smells like chocolate! But my entire sunroom smells terrrible from it. So interesting! @debbiedo @MamaLinne sounds like maybe your hoya is high in indoles 😷💩🫠 can smell really bad in high concentrations, like 💩, rotting…. uh, previously alive things, coal tar, or surprisingly like chocolate or jasmine in very low concentrations 🤣🤣 interesting that when you’re close it smells better 🤔🤯

@RefinedSandwort hi Joy. So nice that someone noticed. Cruise to the Bahamas. I worried most of the trip about my babies. Some are still mad. Some said F it and just died. I’m back and have a reason to plant shop 🥰🌱

@JPR this is my first of my 22 hoyas , but generally speaking, lots of light (lives in a dappled south window), humidity (I live in dry Colorado so I have 3 humidifiers running in my sunroom to get about 45% humidity, a snug pot, and lots of patience! Many varieties take years to flower, but a couple will flower sooner than that- I think the Bella variety for example. This one took just over a year, which is shocking for a carnosa.

And yes, the hoya stank struggle is real with some species. I always fight the urge to throw out my Mathilde or even cut the blooms because it's so overbearing. But how can we when they are so pretty? Congrats on your literal early bloomer. She is a beauty.
