Happy Wednesday at #TheWateringHole my lovely plant people 🤍🌿 The last few days have been quite hot, so I am actually so thankful to see that starting tomorrow it looks like we’re due for almost a week of rain 😮‍💨 🙌 I have not done any laundry, or much else around the house because of the heat. 🥵 I have spent some time checking on my cucumeris mites though 🤓 I just love them. It’s supposed to be less than 90°F/32°C today, so today I play catch-up. Luckily for me, my adhd brain takes that as a challenge. 3 days of work in a few hours? Challenge accepted!! For pictures, we’ve got a new tortum leaf, a ridiculously long latifolia vine that I very much need to make a trellis for, some broadmite ICU patients (my poor beauty star 😭 but she’s hanging on! ) and an excellent microscope that attaches to your phone making taking and sharing pictures a piece of cake, and a picture from said microscope. Green circle is my beneficial predatory mite; the N. cucumeris, and red circle is a feeder mite. ⏱️Want to be notified of these posts when they come out? Hello and calling all #hoyaheads in the US. Just want to let you know about an awesome shop I found on Palmstreet…after I finally figured out how it worked . (It’s generally way too stimulating for me 🤪) Now I just have this shop The Hoya Heaux (🤣🤣🤣) bookmarked, and don’t use anything else. It’s a small family business selling both unrooted and nicely-rooted hoya cuttings and small plants. Everything I’ve got from them has been exceptionally healthy, unique, and packed well, and usually between $1-20 😱 Anyhoo, their next “live” is this Friday 6/26 at 8:30pm CST. So some jealous Karen neighbors out where I stay out called the fire marshal and complained about my plants on the balcony I now I have to bring in all my plants. They can't be outside. The fire marshal said it was a fire hazard and somebody might trip. 🤦‍♀️. My plants have been sitting on that balcony in the summer for 2 years. Never any complaints. I had to bring in 30 plants. So of course I had to order another grow light 🙄. Not too sure about the placement. I feel like just the front ones are getting light. It finally came! Well, one part; the last part of my soil mix. Still waiting on the hydroguard… ugh… 😩 Why is it taking so long? 🙃🐌🩵🌸 In the meantime, I have finally finished repotting 72 plants and more to go… but I gotta take a little break. Of all the hoyas that have bloomed for me recently.... this is one I'm actually proud of. as in "I'm counting this one as an achievement" proud. Since I've heard the serpens can sometimes be difficult to bloom, I couldn't believe my eyes, when I saw some of the myriad peduncles they seem to put out "just in case" regularly were actually developing more. This one is actually the first of several peduncles about to bloom, and I can't believe my fuzzy cutsey luck. Each singular blossom is about the size of a leaf, making the comparatively huge peduncles surrounded by the tiny "snake" heads absolutely magnificent. Like with her daughter, the Mathilde, I'm not a fan of its fragrance, but really, who cares: One of my hoya serpens is in bloom! I will try to capture the whole plant when more peduncles are open, because the size difference between peduncles and leaves is so remarkable, but for now I was scared to move the plant until the blooms are fully open. #hoya #hoyahangout #plantsmakepeoplehappy #happyplants #pedunclewatch

It’s Wednesday at #TheWateringHole 🌿🌤️ Good morning everybody, or should I say good day [good evening, and goodnight!] ? After several days of ~95° 🥵 I am so very very grateful to be back down in the 70°s 😮‍💨 My plants, however, thought it was swell! As I was moving around my plants this morning I was thinking about the satisfying little tasks of plant care that are delightful. For me, one of my favorites is plucking off the totally brown and dried-up sheathes of cane begonia leaves. No force necessary, once they are brown and shriveled, I just touch them and they fall off in my hands. And I don’t *have* to do this, as they will fall off eventually by themselves, but it brings me joy. 🥰 Another one is when I water, and the saucer fills up but does not overflow, and later when I go to check all the water was sucked back up and the pot is the perfect “well-watered weight.” Do you have any small plant care tasks or activities that give you satisfaction or delight? Don't mind me, just me lying down beneath my blooming bella. 😍 Other hoyas that have opened since my last post are added as well. The now fully open sp. vietnam, and some especially pretty balls of flouff, another Mini Pixie bloom next to a 1ct coin for scale. Good morning Wednesday #TheWateringHole 🫶🌿🌤️ How is everyone doing in their neck of the woods? I, like quite a number of #greggers , have some pests in my indoor collection. Broad mites. (Booo hiss!!) They are minuscule, to a lot of people they are microscopic, 1/4 of a millimeter 🤏 small , but I can see them. They look like little dust specks moving around without magnification. They are notoriously hard to contain because of their size. Not only can they come in on a plant, they are so small they can float on a breeze through a window screen. 🦋🐝 How did I find them? I had a few very strange new leaves on two hoyas. They curled in on themselves, lost their shiny luster, appeared grey, and fell off (with my tweezer into a baggie) at a mere touch. I shall post those leaves. You can treat with neem, although it is a lot of labor involved, so this time and with the knowledgeable advice of @MusicalRedmint Susann, I am going PREDATORY MITES. This website DMV Beneficials is amazing. https:// They are a US-based service that offers free consultations to figure out what you’re dealing with and what would be the best predatory bug to help. If you have a pest situation and are feeling a little overwhelmed, reach out to them, they help people all over the states get connected with suppliers of good bugs. They also keep your budget in mind. And it seems like prices are not as bad as they used to be! I may be able to contain my pest issue for less than $50 😮‍💨😮‍💨. And if you are in another country, I highly encourage you to look around for beneficial suppliers near you 🦋🐞 And if you’re in Oregon or Washington, here is the supplier I will most likely be going with. You can check out their prices, only about $1 per sachet! https:// The mites I’m selecting are also microscopic, so you don’t have to see them in your house if that freaks you out. Came home from a long day at work to this... I sprayed her down with dead bug brew, neem oil and a (fungicide bc why not?) I just seen a post on here the other day about flat mites that affect hoyas? There is no way I can isolate her. I’ve been doing some research on this type of Hoya I recently received; I’m not as familiar with Hoyas. But this one I’ve been reading says it was previously known as and is no longer considered this type of Hoya? I’m very confused so maybe someone else far beyond my level can explain it? Ha ha 😂 it’s called a ‘Previously Vitellinoides’ my only understanding with previously known as limits to previously known as Prince 👑 the musical artist.. Welcome to Susann's summer hoya bloom palooza. The first "batch" of blooms that I've been waiting for is done. #pedunclewatch has paid off. I have to say, they are very considerate in the timing of their reminder why the fight against the flat mites will be worth it. Pics are probably out of order, but the hoyas are h. davidcummingii. not my favorite looking bloom. But its intense fragrance is out of this world. It's very similar to the sp.aff. burtoniae's: homemade caramel, fresh from the pan. Then we have h. soidaoensis in all its flouffy glory. comparing similar blooms (only blooms), I prefer the caudata, I think. But the whole tiny plant is a piece of art, deserving a separate picture. Strong parfumey floral scent, reminiscent of the lacunosa. Last but not least, there is the first bloom of the sp. vietnam peduncle (will repost when it's fully done opening). This one had me worried for a while, but it seems finally to be on the mend after its slew of problems with mites and some weird infection. It had had its first bloom ridiculously early after I got it last year, but then was struggling too much to bloom for ages. So I appreciate it even more now and am so happy for this definite sign of recovery. Happy Thursday #TheWateringHole !! ✨🌿 Quite a few of us seem to have had very exciting days yesterday, I for one am hoping for a nice calm Thursday 🤞 As for #pedunclewatch I am up to FIVE peduncles on my Hoya ‘Bella.’ I don’t know how I missed those other two on such a tiny plant, but I did. 😅 What an overachiever! So these 2 leaves fell off one of the free plants 🪴 that recently got. They are a very light green and the hoya the came off of was super soaked. Maybe the will root maybe the won't 🤷‍♀️ We shall see. The darker green already has roots. She has been in the egg for 4 months now. #happyplants #plantsmakepeoplehappy #hoyahangout
