Variegated String of Buttons
About Variegated String of Buttons
Plants in the Crassula genus are amazingly diverse and come in an incredible assortment of sizes and colors. Many of the ones we grow today are native to a small region in South Africa, which makes that diversity even more amazing! They're super low maintenance plants that can handle long periods of drought, so great if you're prone to skipping waters (we won't tell). 🫢 Make sure they get plenty of sunlight and that they're planted in a pot with a drainage hole and they'll be happy as can be!
Taxonomy
Crassula perforata f. variegata
Crassula
Crassulaceae
Saxifragales
Also known as
Crassula perforata 'Variegata'

Most potting soils come with ample nutrients which plants use to produce new growth.
By the time your plant has depleted the nutrients in its soil it’s likely grown enough to need a larger pot anyway.
To replenish this plant's nutrients, repot your Variegated String of Buttons after it doubles in size or once a year—whichever comes first.

Diseased Crassula Hi everyone! One of my crassulas is looking diseased and I was wondering if there is anything I can do for it? There is white fluff on the plant and whilst most leaves seem healthy, some are shrivelled or beginning to shrivel. #PestControl #Crassula #GollumJade #Jade

My plant grew these weird roots on one of the stalks. I was underwatering it for a while, when I finally learned to water properly the other stalks recovered but this one didn't. Any ideas what to do with it? #Crassula

Just noticed the new growth coming in on my #StringOfButtons is variegated 😮 Such an unexpected yet pleasant surprise, especially for a $4 plant from Lowe's lol 😁😍 Does this happen a lot? The whole plant was solid green when I brought it home, and now 5/5 new buds are green + white variegated. I've never seen anything like it before. Plants are so crazy! 😛 #variegatedplants #SucculentSquad #SucculentLove

Some pretty variegated babies & an arrangement I put together this week! 🌱 1. Kiwi Aeonium (I have had this one for a while, she had two siblings but sadly they didn’t make it). My mom revived this one for me and It is now back in my care. She has fostered quite a few of my succulents for me😊 2. New variegated Jade, I have a bigger version from my local nursery, and this one is from my local big box store. I wonder if they will preform any differently? 🤔 3. New Anacampseros Sunrise, I have two of these now. My other is much taller, as if I’ve had it much longer. It was this size when I first got it. This new baby has 2 blooms on it, hopefully I will get to see them open since my other has never bloomed. 🌸 4. Arrangement I put together, with my clearance pot from walmart. When I finished it fit four echeverias, a sedum, & a kalanchoe. 5. Two more variegated varieties I found when I went shopping, an elephant bush, and string of buttons 🌿👍🏼 I’ve had a string of buttons before, that grew super tall, but I lost them to a hard frost! I also am familiar with portulacaria so I’m excited to try my hand with these babies again. ✨🌵💕 #SucculentSquad #Succulents #succulentsunday #Succulent #succulentarrangements #Echeveria #variegatedplants #Aeonium #PlantAddict #HappyPlants #NewGrowth #NewPlants #PlantsMakePeopleHappy #ElephantBush

I’ve had this guy for about a month and seeing some odd textures appear on some leaves. Should I be worried? #Crassula #hobbitjade #crassulaovata

Any advice for these pups? I got this Crassula over summer and it started growing pups and losing its adult leaves. I kinda liked the idea of cutting a little below the 3 pups on the top to see how it would grow (check marking on second photo) but I’m scared it may be difficult for it to grow roots.. I’ve started to remove the ones toward the bottom of the plants once they’ve grown big enough. I’m hoping i can keep the momma alive. Pictures at the end of the pups in their new pots 🤗 #Crassula #CactusClique #PropagationStation #SucculentSquad #SucculentLove #Succulents

Just like the time I went to CVS for my son's prescription and left with a Dragon Fruit Cactus, today I went to Home Depot for boxes and left with a Variegated String of Buttons 😹 I did get the boxes too though! Cool that I bought a succulent on #WhatTheSuccWednesday 🤪 #SucculentSquad #lovesuccs #GrowingSuccs #SucculentLove #SuccerForSucculents #DMVGregGang

Can I repot this plant even though it's October? My springtime crassula has finally grown long enough to tip her pot over. Conventional wisdom says to wait until spring, but I don't want to have her resting on her lower leaves for that long. Would repotting her right now be a bad move? #Crassula #crassulaposting #pottingadvice
