About Stingray Elephant Ear
Alocasias, commonly known as Elephant Ears, are some of the most common houseplants although their leaves can reach enormous sizes when grown outdoors! 🐘 They typically only support a few leaves at a time (more, when they get more sun!) so don't be concerned if you see an old leaf begin to retire after a new one emerges. They grow out of underground corms which are similar to bulbs, so next time you repot keep an eye out for baby Alocasias! They contain calcium oxalate crystals so be sure to keep them out of reach if you have children or pets! ⚠️

How to fertilize Stingray Elephant Ear
Most potting soils come with ample nutrients which plants use to produce new growth.
By the time your plant has depleted the nutrients in its soil it’s likely grown enough to need a larger pot anyway.
To replenish this plant's nutrients, repot your Stingray Elephant Ear after it doubles in size or once a year—whichever comes first.

Next level tips for plant care? In an attempt to be a better plant parent, I looked for more info about my Alocasia Stingray. Today I learned it's normal for it to only have a few leaves at a time when it's young and the oldest leaf naturally dies back when a new one grows. So glad it's the plant and not me, lol 😅 Fertilizer is particularly important during growing season as apparently it's a hungry plant and this will help it grow bigger so it can eventually sustain more leaves. I've been giving mine a low dose of seaweed fertilizer over the year I've had it and it seems happy so far. Now I just need the patience for it to get bigger! 🌿 Plant friends, what have you learned from having this particular plant that has helped you successfully care for it? #StingrayElephantEar #alocasiastingray #plantfriendsarethebestfriends #plantsmakepeoplehappy #greggerssupportinggreggers #ballondusoleil

I’m dying to do a “Caption This” with Crichton’s new leaf, but it’s fairly self explanatory. 🤦🏼♀️🤣 The second picture is his other new one beginning its journey to glory, and the third is from Freya, my Frydek. 🥰 Enjoy the opportunity for giggles, and happy Friday, everyone! #FreshLeafFriday #HappyPlants #PlantsMakePeopleHappy #PlantAddict #NewGrowth #FridayFunsies #AlocasiaAddicts #StingrayAlocasia #AlocasiaFrydek #CaptionThisPicture #HisLobster

So this is happening… 💃🎶🕺 These are the first new leaves Crichton has given me. A lot of my babies have been gettin’ busy, but when it’s their first… I don’t know. There’s just something special about it, especially if I don’t miss it happening, like I did with my Black Cherry Pink Princess cuttings—they both had new leaves emerge and I missed the unfurling. 😑🤦🏼♀️ Anyhow, maybe between this guy and Freya, who’s putting out a new one, too, I’ll have something super neat to brag on for #FreshLeafFriday this week! Isn’t the one just like a butterfly breaking out of its cocoon, though? So fascinating to watch… #PlantsMakePeopleHappy #HappyPlants #PlantAddict #NewGrowth #AlocasiaAddicts #StingrayElephantEar #PlantMafia #GrowBabyGrow

Knocked off a corm - now what? I repotted my Alocasia Stingray and accidentally knocked off a corm. I don't know if I'm ready to grow it though - how easy is it? How cute is this stingray alocasia? I can’t believe I got this at Home Depot.

TO WORRY OR NOT TO WORRY. THAT IS THE QUESTION. I received my plant proper delivery on Thursday. The plants are absolutely gorgeous. However, on the alakasha stingray plant, there are spots on several different leaves. Please tell me there's nothing for me to worry about. This has been an incredibly rough summer. #alocasiaaddicts #jodisplace #happyplants #pestcontrol #plantsmakepeoplehappy #fungusamongus

Cut this guy? More leaves… Should I just make the chop on this leaf? It’s the only one doing this. Part of it looks reddish, but it may be the lighting. #StingrayElephantEar #ElephantEar #help #helpneeded #GregGang

Just old leaves? Light? Hey there Greg! I hope everyone up here is staying safe and warm with this crap weather 🫶🏽❄️ I was trying to keep my new stingray separate from my other plants so it was in a spot with not much light and the two side stems started drooping and losing color. I just recently got it a light so hoping the other 3 stems will be ok. Could I’d just be the light issue or something else? Maybe old leaves? The second picture is of one of the good leaves with a crispy spot. Not sure what that’s about either… #GregGang #help #leaves #GrowLights #StingrayElephantEar #AlocasiaAddicts
