Of course, #carnivorousplants 😄 .. We initially went out looking for Pinguicula pumila, Drosera capillaris, or Drosera brevifolia. Considering we were just looking at roadsides, I wasn't sure we were going to find much. If you know what any of these three look like, they're all pretty darn tiny. I knew that Sarracenia minor grows in the area that we were looking, though I didn't even consider the possibility of finding them as they seem to be rarer. Well, while we might not have found any of the first three mentioned, to my complete shock we did find Sarracenia minor! It was definitely hard to get to, as the ditch was completely full of water, but we found a point to cross. Mealybugs, again. 2 9 Comments @Merranda · 5M Seedlings!! This past weekend I took some time and potted up all of the Venus Fly Trap seeds I've been getting. Im starting to think maybe I shouldn't of pollinated that many flowers because they're still going!! I ended up filling around 5 3" pots. Im going to have to repot them in a few months if a good amount of the seeds germinate since I definitely put too much seed in each pot 🤦♀️. Some of the VFT seeds that I had potted up about a month ago have sprouted too! Its so cool knowing that they're grown from the seeds of my own plants. They dont have their first traps yet, but I'm excited for when they do. Hopefully in the coming weeks more seeds sprout! The Sarracenia seedlings that I've been growing since they sprouted roughly two months ago are also just the cutest things. I adore their tiny pitchers so much. This past month ive noticed them taking off as well! Its surprising since the majority of these are S. leucophylla "albino", and leucophylla don't really take off until late summer/early fall. Makes me wonder if new seedlings are different! Its very difficult to get good photos of them, so please excuse the quality of the pictures. Also, a photo of my biggest venus fly trap seedling that I planted sometime may of last year. It's one of my favorite things to do 📷🪰 I was trying to get more close-up photos this time - mainly trying to capture the mucilage on my Pinguicula primuliflora's leaves & the dew on my Drosera! They were practically sparkling this morning from the sun. ✨️✨️ Also snapped a few pics of my Sarracenia psittacina & another Sarracenia that I had received without an ID. Im guessing it's some sort of hybrid. Don't really want to call it a species w/o proper identification ! The psittacina are so adorable. They look like little hooks. Likewise, I have been a "busy bee" pollinating all of the Venus Fly trap & Sarracenia flowers (making specific crosses & also my plants are kept in a screened in deck which means pollinators can't do their jobs). I've already gotten some venus fly trap seeds, with many many more seeds still ripening. There's also quite a few Sarracenia seed pods forming! Fancied a new carnivorous plant so I took a trip to the garden centre, everybody meet Hans! The label says he’s a Sarracenia 'Hans' but this cultivar isn’t on Greg. This weekend, I went on a trip to see Sarracenia in the wild! Despite living in the same state that they grow, the best areas to see them are still over 6 hours away from me. It was absolutely magical getting to stand in a field of Sarracenia! I couldn't exactly put the feeling into words. It almost didn't feel real. Plus, the trails we went on were absolutely beautiful. One overlooked a breathtaking swamp, while another went through an equally pretty marsh. Wetlands are really something special, they are magical places. At one of the places, the ditch outside of the park was full of Sarracenia leucophylla and Drosera tracyi. The Drosera tracyi was so plentiful that they made the entire ditch look like it was glowing! Once again, it was magical. Yesterday I went to the annual plant sale at Leu Gardens in Orlando (btw if you want to go but haven't it's still going on today -- March 9th!). It was super fun, and the gardens were absolutely stunning. So so so many vendors were there, it was huge! Of course I had to immediately make my way over to the carnivorous plant tent. He had more plants than usual, which was of course, amazing! I ended up getting 2 nepenthes, 2 drosera, and 2 sarracenia. The days have been warming up here in FL. My Sarracenia, venus fly traps, and temperate drosera & pinguicula have begun coming out of dormancy! It's so nice seeing them growing again - I always miss them over winter. My Nepenthes have also been going crazy with pitchers. I've been struggling to find that perfect environment, soil, and watering schedule for them, but I think I've finally got it! I can't wait for all of my temperate plants to be out of dormancy fully.
