Well, cinnamon sprinkled, sticky fly traps added, and fingers crossed. I’ll be spraying neem oil and water this evening to try and help too. How to deal with Gnats - #PlantingOnABudget edition 💸 Hey #GregGang 👋🏽 ✨ I thought I would share my “secret sauce”, a cost-effective way to catch those darn gnats! Along with sticky traps and systemics (that can be quite expensive!), I like to use my homemade gnat trap recipe that works GREAT! 🐛 I’ve realized shortly after getting into plants, that #NewPlants tend to come with infested or soggy soil that attracts buggies! I always either repot or quarantine my plant for at least a week, but sometimes even that won’t be enough, so I place my gnat traps! ✅ Here’s my “Secret Sauce” and what you’ll need : • Dish or Hand Soap (I use scented because I’ve noticed gnats like sweet scents) • Distilled White Vinegar/Apple Cider Vinegar • 70% Isopropyl Alcohol • Water ❗️Instructions : In a small dish or container (I use Powerade/Gatorade bottles) - 3 pumps of dish/hand soap - 2 teaspoons of Vinegar - 2 teaspoons of Isopropyl - Fill with Water ⭐️ I place these in between my props that like humidity (and are watered often) and they attract *most* gnats that fly around. New set up loading 🆙 My wonderful husband got me this shelf of with built in grow lights ( Please leave any comments below about grow light info, I’m new to them! I use an Amazon lamp at work lol ) for the holidays! He’s the best! Completely toasted the monstera with I believe rust fungus, maybe aerial blight, & definitely gnats. Kept some of her babies though!! She’s outside on permanent timeout until I can detox her to the moons (wash roots, complete wipe down of all the scaly browning bits. Just a hassle I cannot deal with just yet). But I also repotted and restructured everyone!! Cheers to 2025 everyone! Please post your babies! Who’s excited for another #BeneficialBugs post?! I’ve got some BUG PICS for today’s #SpringIntoSummer! Sadly, I am battling thrips. This should take about three applications, hopefully, to get rid of the jerks. Regimen: - pirate bugs - cucumeris mites - stratiolaelaps mites This is my second release of those three. After this release, I will be doing lacewing larvae and nematodes. Speechless… This is the reason that, by far, the Rex Begonia variegation is my number one favorite plant species!! There are just SO MANY completely different looking species out there and each one is more wonderfully weirder than the last!! The Escargot is hands down in my top 3 Begoina. To me, it actually looks like a knitted wool!!! I think it’s one of the coolest looking plants period! My boyfriend freaked out because he thought I got a Monstera Albo 💀😭 little did he know, that I’m treating his baby for thrips 💀💀😩 I sanitize and repot everything 😩😩 how does this happen? Begonia Maculata rescue!!! 😍😍😍 Omg guys I’m in love!! I got this raggedy #PolkaDotBegonia from the HD about 20 days ago and was waiting for it to acclimate before doing my magic! ✨✨ All of them had #deathplugs, so removed those and took off all the crispy, damaged and dead leaves, gave them some fresh soil with orchid bark and perlite and voila!! Also, this plant is a champ!🥇💪🏽 I didn’t water it in 20 days and only hosed it down with Natria and it grew some good looking baby leaves already. I got 3 plants in one for $17! The importance of cleaning the plant shelves: You never know what you’ll find and it’s best to check/spot clean even though it all seems ok. I do it every week and I knew something was going on at night. It’s only natural for some insects to be out and about while we are sleeping. I moved a few plants and found this little guy in my Verrucosum cabinet where I keep the Calathea! 😂 My plants are fine but I saw a bit of yellowing on one #WhiteFusion at this particular shelf and I just had to do further inspection. I’m not sure how it got in that cabinet but everyone is being re-potted in fresh soil just in case! Check your plant shelves at night or in early morning. Overdue Watering Day With my downwards moods lately & trying to dry out everyone to battle the last of the fungus gnats (they're almost gone), I'm feeling like a bad #plantmom. Everyone's so thirsty. Even my #castironplant got a yellow leaf. Several others lost leaves as well, some extra crunchy. Oh well. Life finds a way. Just glad I was able to fit 16 into this bin at once, with 10 others soaking in their water dishes. Today I will be chopping up my last 2 Monsteras just for their leaves. I may do some sort of art project with the better ones. 🥺😢🥺😢 I hate the fact I will be starting over and it makes me sick knowing how much money I had into all my plants. To me my plants were therapy for me, being able to take care of them and feeling their leaves and just really talking to them helped me more than you know. I just want to sit back and cry 😭 because I don’t have anything to take care of in such a way that only I could here in the household. I know @sassylimey feels the same way I do about her plants, as well as many of you do as well. I purchased these Beneficial Nematodes based on @AnthuriumQueen advice. In actuality how long does it take for scale to get out of your home? The leaves I have posted here are the only leaves worth saving. I do have this tiny little sprout that popped up in the middle of my oldest plant that just killed me when I seen it I am going to see if I can save it. The last picture actually gave me some hope. To me it reminds me of a small mini Monstera that I could work with and hope that it would grow up to be a big Monstera one day.

I love my #GregFriends. #PlantFriendsAreTheBestFriends I quickly ranted to @ManyLime about Midori #Syngonium) catching #thrips and also made a post here, but look what I got in the mail yesterday! 😭😭 I know it’s just Systemic Granules but I refuse to receive gifts and because of that, I’ve not received much my entire life (and that’s okay!! I love to give much more than I like to receive, I make it my lifelong goal). I’ve been stressed out despite my home remedy working, but systemics kind of make you feel at ease when you use them!
