Gardenia help
Help! I donβt know all the technical terms so hereβs what happened
I put gardenia seed in soil and covered with a plastic Bag, I put 6 seeds in 4 seed starter pots, Iβm seeing a couple sprouts about 1/2 on two of the plants baby pots. Here the best pic I could get without removing the plastic!
When do I take the plastic off. π€·ββοΈhelp!

So when I do this with tissue cultures, once I see leaves or startings of my plants, I put a little stick in to prop the bag up. If your plants get too much of the plastic, it can make them bruise or turn mushy at such young ages. I generally only water with distilled water to avoid the plant getting too much moisture without damaging the tissue. Then I gently start cracking my bag. I generally just get gallon or slightly larger Ziploc bags that have the sliding top so I can really see how much is open. Then I increase how much I open the bag till the plant fully adapts. Itβs worked pretty well. I usually do my variegated tissue cultures (Alocasias this way). I hope this helps a little. If I can help at all, please let me know. βΊοΈπ Itβs nerve-racking I know, so I truly wish you luck with nerves of steel! π
@pricklydude thank you so much. theyβre just sprouting now, I donβt see leaves yet.
@MamaLinne no problem, I appreciate you responding. Hope your weekend is going good ππ½
Hi Sherri π @Preciousplants1 congrats on the sprouts π±! So adorable π₯°.
Iβm π― on board with @Idplantthat approach π. I use Ziplock bags and have the opening up top so the seedlings donβt touch the plastic as they grow. I keep them like that for a while, at least until I get through what I call the βbabyβ baby leaf stage π Those first few leaves are so fragile and precious I want to protect them allowing like the next set to come through before I make changes. Just like @Idplantthat says start to crack the bag a little bit every few days to acclimate it to life outside the bag. A lot depends on the plant - my anthurium seedlings grew fast and acclimated quickly while my begonias and Silver Dragon babies are still in baggies or in a cloche after many months. Your gardenia should be able to handle the transition gradually, theyβre not as delicate or need as much humidity as alocasia. Canβt wait to see your bΓ¨bΓ¨s grow up!!!
