Why is my plant rotting?

For about a month now, my #bougainvillea leaves have been wilting and drying out. This also happened when I first adopted her and they ended up growing back but now it's worse than before.

My other #bougainvillea is experiencing an aphid attack but I don't believe this is a pest issue.

All of the new growth has also died. It begins with the leaves faintly wilting, then turning yellow, and finally drying out to for dead, crunchy leaves. The plant had a great number of leaves and flowers and until everything started going downhill.

Any tips and/or solutions will help.

They need sun if they're inside or they'll lose their leaves. Mine is four feet from a sunny window and I water just when it starts to wilt. It's only blooming now because I fed it last summer. Hope this helps.
@Tropicalgia It's an outdoor plant that receives a lot of direct sunlight, but I do place it in the shade because of the current heat, so could that be the issue? Should I put it outside in the sun?

I was just concerned that the leaves would start to burn. Thank you for the suggestion :)
They can handle direct sun outdoors. If the weather is hot, it could be drying out too much though. It might be ready for a larger pot. It would also be good to check the roots to make sure it hasn't had root rot from staying too wet.
@Tropicalgia Thank you so much for this reply. I believe the weather isnt THAT hot for it to be drying out but I will definitely be revisiting the root rot and pot change. How do i check for root rot on a bougainvillea if you dont mind me asking? I've only done it on a snake plant and I'm not at all an expert or its just the same and Im blabbing like an idiot.
No not at all! It's probably a bigger root mass but it's just looking for any roots that are black and limp and squishy.
So is the main problem just the sun or are there some other factors that can contribute to the wilting and yellowing?
From keeping them out over the summer, I would suspect a watering issue, getting too wet and/or drying out. I haven't had any other problems with them.
Hi! I love in zone 8b and mine love the sun and heat. I get them to bloom a lot by… ignoring them. 😎 I honestly don’t water until they’re wilting and that makes them thrive!
@JocundAlfalfa they can take lots of heat and sun. I live in Arizona and mine are on the south side of my house. I would t worry too much about the sun. They also really like arid conditions and they can thrive with very little water.
Don't worry about it just give it full direct sunlight
