So my yard is absolutely terrible, but I have big olโ puppies. But Iโve had a whacking day. I donโt know about you all, but sometimes when I start projects, I get a little too into them. ๐๐คฆโโ๏ธ Well, there went the bananas. Eventually, they were going to be chopped anyway. ๐๐๐ช In my defense, winging a machete is really fun. ๐๐ซถ๐ฉต #HappyPlants #TheThread #TheWateringHole #Banana #PlantsMakePeopleHappy #PlantAddict #NewGrowth #PropagationStation #PlantTherapy #GrowLights #PetsAndPlants #PlantCorner #BeforeAndAfter #PestControl #PlantShelfie #RarePlants #PlantID
Oh man!! The machete and banana leaves just brought me back to a wonderful little cabin I had the privilege to stay at in Nicaragua 10 years ago. There was no electricity or WiFi. The front desk had a communal machete they loaned out so we could hack down fresh fruits. There was a pina grove and the oldest almond tree on the island. And sweet hibiscus at every turn. From Utah to the Caribbean! ๐ฅฐ ๐ฅฐ And congrats on the beautiful corm sprouts!!! The pinks are otherworldly!! ๐
@Jho oh my gosh; thatโs like paradise right there. Sometimes I wonder why we live in concrete jungles when places as beautiful as that exist. Then I remember too. I like Amazon, and air conditioning, and having takeout. ๐คญ Thatโs why I live here! That and I am way too close to my family to leave. ๐
๐คฃ Thatโs incredible though. Did you go alone? Was it a vacation or what made you decide to go to Nicaragua? I donโt feel like itโs one of those places you just regularly go to? Or is that just me? ๐คฃ Iโve been known to know nothing about the outside world. ๐
๐คญ I can just see max loving that jungle; I think within a week heโs be running it. ๐
@Idplantthat hahaha and flushing toilets, and roads, and taxi service, and the absence of HUMONGOUS spiders, etc etc. ๐๐ Itโs fun to play Swiss Family Robinson for a week or so, but yeah, long term, that would be tough. I will say, we strategically chose this side of the island because it was windward so the AC was not missed. I woke up every morning with a salt crust on everything though. And the leeward side of the island, ugh. I donโt know how people slept there. It was one of those magical โจ coincidences and an extraordinary trip.. I had taken time off of work but my plans fell through. I put on Facebook who was doing something on these dates that were literally 2 weeks away at the time, thinking Iโd crash in someoneโs hotel room at a conference or something. One of my best friends since freshmen year of HS commented and said she was traipsing about Nicaragua but expected to be on Little Corn Island by the dates I had posted and was welcome to join. I looked it up, realized this place would not stay isolated very much longer, and especially not with a friend already there waiting, and was sold! I let her know I was in, timed out my arrival (PHLโ> MIA โ> Managua overnight โ> Big Corn Island (puddle jumper) โ> Little Corn Island (panga boat), and she just had to wait at the dock for the 2nd boat that day and hope I didnโt have any issues along the way. Without WiFi or cell phones, there was no way to communicate if I was delayed or anything. But it all went swimmingly! And I was scuba diving with sharks the day after I got there. ๐ฆ Mainland Nicaragua was also amazing; such rich recent history and the people were wonderful. I hired a tour guide to take me around Managua by public transit and see all the sights. And Mercado Oriental, the largest open air market in Central America! (That also carries its own crime statistics!!)
@Jho ๐คฉ WOW!!!! How great ๐ for you!!!!
@Jho OMG! That first picture of the window looks like something AI would try to make, but couldnโt quite cut it. I mean it looks like a movie picture. How incredible and what an experience. Thatโs wild you and my brother travel the same way! I love it, I love Central America (to visit). I donโt think I could cut it living there year-round. ๐ That beach and those waters are stunning! Kinda reminds me of Aruba, the crystal-clear beaches and those beautiful watersโฆ that have insects that could seriously ๐ณ carry you off in the nightโฆ besides that and things that live in the jungles, Iโm good! ๐ Iโm not a reptile personโ I will throw children and elderly in front of me if I see a snake comingโฆ Iโm not proud of thisโฆ but I donโt think ๐ค Iโm capable of thinking clearly. ๐๐ Have you gone to any other countries or places?
@Idplantthat haha yeah it was an insane trip. Your brother travels by the seat of his pants too? I only saw one snake on the island, but funnily enough, you had to keep your headlamp tuned for the land crabs!! They were all over. And the banana spiders were HUMONGOUS but pretty docile. Iโve never been to Aruba, but Iโve heard itโs amazing too. The ABCs have been on my list for a bit. Does Aruba have snakes?? I suppose thatโs a silly question. lol. Besides Nicaragua, Iโve done Mexico and PR a couple times each, and Cuba was another amazing trip. The fumes from the old cars gave you the worst headaches, but they have an otherworldly beach called Varadero. We stayed with a local elderly couple in La Habana and they treated us like their grandkids for the week. The culture shock was definitely eye opening, and so informative. And Iโve been to Montreal to officiate a wedding.. that was so neat but it was the middle of a heat wave and they donโt do air conditioning.. I was meeellltingg. I imagine itโs like what parts of Europe are like. Iโve always wanted to do Europe but I fear for my tall knees on that long of a flight. lol
@Jho Iโve done a few European trips when I was younger. Weโve been all over Mexico and the Caribbean a few times just on cruises. I donโt remember Aruba having snakes when we were in Puerto Rico. They were everywhere, and youโd be sitting outside your room having morning coffee, and youโd have to jump out of the way on cows just running through the resort. Ha ha ha. And then the howler monkeys you had to watch for? But other than that, it was so much fun. Okay, land crabs sound hilarious until Iโd actually have to encounter one. ๐คฃ My momโs side is from Canada, so we go up there, but thatโs just like America to me, just Canadian. ๐คฃ We have a massive family coming from Edmonton. I canโt travel anymore; I canโt even leave my little area or ride an elevator up past the fourth floor without screaming in pain. Just because pressure is so triggering.
@Idplantthat wow! Thatโs terrible about the fourth floor pressure! Iโm sorry to hear; that must be very frustrating. ๐ซถ I guess driving up mountains must be similar, and youโve got a bunch over there, right? Ugh ๐ฃ Ok the monkeys though - Iโve never seen wild monkeys!!! ๐ I did have a friend in high school that had one. He would fly around the room and wore a little diaper. But that was the closest Iโve gotten - I would love to see some in the wild. Those TikToks are so funnyโฆ they can be quite mischievous. Puerto Ricoโฆ oof. I was swimming around the biophosphorescent lagoon and then LATER found out they have their own type of caiman! ๐คฆโโ๏ธ Bad traveler, but I was 18 - young and dumb (and full of blue curaรงao probably). Iโve never been to Edmonton! I do know about their mall though!! lol I remember researching it as a kid for something. ๐
