So my yard is absolutely terrible, but I have big olโ€™ puppies. But Iโ€™ve had a whacking day. I donโ€™t know about you all, but sometimes when I start projects, I get a little too into them. ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™€๏ธ Well, there went the bananas. Eventually, they were going to be chopped anyway. ๐Ÿ˜‚๐ŸŒ๐Ÿช“ In my defense, winging a machete is really fun. ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿซถ๐Ÿฉต #HappyPlants #TheThread #TheWateringHole #Banana #PlantsMakePeopleHappy #PlantAddict #NewGrowth #PropagationStation #PlantTherapy #GrowLights #PetsAndPlants #PlantCorner #BeforeAndAfter #PestControl #PlantShelfie #RarePlants #PlantID
Some corms have sprouted ๐Ÿฅฐ๐Ÿฉต
Had to repot my undulatas... let's hope those go well... but I'm so excited, my red splash has a new leaf that's almost to size!
Yay! That's always positive! ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜…
Oh man!! The machete and banana leaves just brought me back to a wonderful little cabin I had the privilege to stay at in Nicaragua 10 years ago. There was no electricity or WiFi. The front desk had a communal machete they loaned out so we could hack down fresh fruits. There was a pina grove and the oldest almond tree on the island. And sweet hibiscus at every turn. From Utah to the Caribbean! ๐Ÿฅฐ ๐Ÿฅฐ And congrats on the beautiful corm sprouts!!! The pinks are otherworldly!! ๐Ÿ˜
@Jho oh my gosh; thatโ€™s like paradise right there. Sometimes I wonder why we live in concrete jungles when places as beautiful as that exist. Then I remember too. I like Amazon, and air conditioning, and having takeout. ๐Ÿคญ Thatโ€™s why I live here! That and I am way too close to my family to leave. ๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿคฃ Thatโ€™s incredible though. Did you go alone? Was it a vacation or what made you decide to go to Nicaragua? I donโ€™t feel like itโ€™s one of those places you just regularly go to? Or is that just me? ๐Ÿคฃ Iโ€™ve been known to know nothing about the outside world. ๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿคญ I can just see max loving that jungle; I think within a week heโ€™s be running it. ๐Ÿ˜‚
@Idplantthat hahaha and flushing toilets, and roads, and taxi service, and the absence of HUMONGOUS spiders, etc etc. ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ Itโ€™s fun to play Swiss Family Robinson for a week or so, but yeah, long term, that would be tough. I will say, we strategically chose this side of the island because it was windward so the AC was not missed. I woke up every morning with a salt crust on everything though. And the leeward side of the island, ugh. I donโ€™t know how people slept there. It was one of those magical โœจ coincidences and an extraordinary trip.. I had taken time off of work but my plans fell through. I put on Facebook who was doing something on these dates that were literally 2 weeks away at the time, thinking Iโ€™d crash in someoneโ€™s hotel room at a conference or something. One of my best friends since freshmen year of HS commented and said she was traipsing about Nicaragua but expected to be on Little Corn Island by the dates I had posted and was welcome to join. I looked it up, realized this place would not stay isolated very much longer, and especially not with a friend already there waiting, and was sold! I let her know I was in, timed out my arrival (PHLโ€”> MIA โ€”> Managua overnight โ€”> Big Corn Island (puddle jumper) โ€”> Little Corn Island (panga boat), and she just had to wait at the dock for the 2nd boat that day and hope I didnโ€™t have any issues along the way. Without WiFi or cell phones, there was no way to communicate if I was delayed or anything. But it all went swimmingly! And I was scuba diving with sharks the day after I got there. ๐Ÿฆˆ Mainland Nicaragua was also amazing; such rich recent history and the people were wonderful. I hired a tour guide to take me around Managua by public transit and see all the sights. And Mercado Oriental, the largest open air market in Central America! (That also carries its own crime statistics!!)
@Jho ๐Ÿคฉ WOW!!!! How great ๐Ÿ‘ for you!!!!
@Jho OMG! That first picture of the window looks like something AI would try to make, but couldnโ€™t quite cut it. I mean it looks like a movie picture. How incredible and what an experience. Thatโ€™s wild you and my brother travel the same way! I love it, I love Central America (to visit). I donโ€™t think I could cut it living there year-round. ๐Ÿ˜‚ That beach and those waters are stunning! Kinda reminds me of Aruba, the crystal-clear beaches and those beautiful watersโ€ฆ that have insects that could seriously ๐Ÿ˜ณ carry you off in the nightโ€ฆ besides that and things that live in the jungles, Iโ€™m good! ๐Ÿ˜‚ Iโ€™m not a reptile personโ€” I will throw children and elderly in front of me if I see a snake comingโ€ฆ Iโ€™m not proud of thisโ€ฆ but I donโ€™t think ๐Ÿค” Iโ€™m capable of thinking clearly. ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ Have you gone to any other countries or places?
@Idplantthat haha yeah it was an insane trip. Your brother travels by the seat of his pants too? I only saw one snake on the island, but funnily enough, you had to keep your headlamp tuned for the land crabs!! They were all over. And the banana spiders were HUMONGOUS but pretty docile. Iโ€™ve never been to Aruba, but Iโ€™ve heard itโ€™s amazing too. The ABCs have been on my list for a bit. Does Aruba have snakes?? I suppose thatโ€™s a silly question. lol. Besides Nicaragua, Iโ€™ve done Mexico and PR a couple times each, and Cuba was another amazing trip. The fumes from the old cars gave you the worst headaches, but they have an otherworldly beach called Varadero. We stayed with a local elderly couple in La Habana and they treated us like their grandkids for the week. The culture shock was definitely eye opening, and so informative. And Iโ€™ve been to Montreal to officiate a wedding.. that was so neat but it was the middle of a heat wave and they donโ€™t do air conditioning.. I was meeellltingg. I imagine itโ€™s like what parts of Europe are like. Iโ€™ve always wanted to do Europe but I fear for my tall knees on that long of a flight. lol
@Jho Iโ€™ve done a few European trips when I was younger. Weโ€™ve been all over Mexico and the Caribbean a few times just on cruises. I donโ€™t remember Aruba having snakes when we were in Puerto Rico. They were everywhere, and youโ€™d be sitting outside your room having morning coffee, and youโ€™d have to jump out of the way on cows just running through the resort. Ha ha ha. And then the howler monkeys you had to watch for? But other than that, it was so much fun. Okay, land crabs sound hilarious until Iโ€™d actually have to encounter one. ๐Ÿคฃ My momโ€™s side is from Canada, so we go up there, but thatโ€™s just like America to me, just Canadian. ๐Ÿคฃ We have a massive family coming from Edmonton. I canโ€™t travel anymore; I canโ€™t even leave my little area or ride an elevator up past the fourth floor without screaming in pain. Just because pressure is so triggering.
@Idplantthat wow! Thatโ€™s terrible about the fourth floor pressure! Iโ€™m sorry to hear; that must be very frustrating. ๐Ÿซถ I guess driving up mountains must be similar, and youโ€™ve got a bunch over there, right? Ugh ๐Ÿ˜ฃ Ok the monkeys though - Iโ€™ve never seen wild monkeys!!! ๐Ÿ’ I did have a friend in high school that had one. He would fly around the room and wore a little diaper. But that was the closest Iโ€™ve gotten - I would love to see some in the wild. Those TikToks are so funnyโ€ฆ they can be quite mischievous. Puerto Ricoโ€ฆ oof. I was swimming around the biophosphorescent lagoon and then LATER found out they have their own type of caiman! ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ Bad traveler, but I was 18 - young and dumb (and full of blue curaรงao probably). Iโ€™ve never been to Edmonton! I do know about their mall though!! lol I remember researching it as a kid for something. ๐Ÿ˜‚
