It’s Monday, almost time for dog walk🐕🐾 & dinner 🍽️ here! Just wanted to share a new flower spike on my anthurium bakeri. It will turn bright red and then form fat seeds all along the top of the spike🌱. Last pic is the post-sulfur treatment of the batch of FB Marketplace Hoyas I got from a local gal. The day I brought them home 🏡 I showered 🚿 them & sprayed with insecticidal soap. Never did I consider flat mites. I’ve got many Hoyas and never battled flat mites. Guess if you collect them long enough it’s bound to happen. I’m definitely looking into beneficials with help from our resident beneficial bug expert Nadia @DreamMachine 🏆🙌 for post sulfur maintenance 👩‍🔧. How was your Monday? It’s probably a short work week for many with 4th of July this weekend 🇺🇸🎆🧨🎇🇺🇸. Any special plans??? #TheWateringHole #HappyPlants #PlantsMakePeopleHappy #PlantTherapy #Hoya #PestControl #Anthurium #PlantLove
@MariansOasis I’m so sorry I’ve never heard of a flat bug but yes bless your heart 💗 I’m praying for you @DreamMachine and @SuperbRaspfern, someone should know:
Where’d you get the flower spike? I’d love to see it red 👍🏽🙏🏽
How exciting, more bakeri seeds! Do you pollinate them yourself? And how are your seedlings going?

I caved and bought some berries of anthurium pallidiflorum a little while back and I have some sprouts! 🌱🥹

I had a somewhat productive #UnMotivatedMonday And by that, I mean, I repotted TWO plants 😅 My hoya ‘Mathilde’ (who is sporting two brand new peduncles 🥹) and H. latifolia. Both had vines so long they threatened to topple their pots over 😳 They were both in tiny 3 inch pots, and I moved them up to 5” so I could fit their new trellises 🤷‍♀️ They’re both fast growers for me, so hopefully those pots won’t take forever to dry out. 🤞 I did a rabbit 🐇 fence trellis for my crassipetiolata before but made it a closed “tube” and it was a royal pain in the 🍑 to pot and put any clips on. So these two today I just made a kind of open half moon trellis. I can still wrap them around, but I can also easily put clips on or tuck a petri dish of cucumeris mites in too.

I wouldn’t call myself an expert, but I am a newly converted beneficials enthusiast!! And well, yes, I’m breeding my cucumeris, so… 🤣 But I’m still a beginner! I’m stuck in my comment and can’t scroll up, were you able to reach out to anyone about beneficials yet? Still hoping you DONT have flat mites but also excited for you to try predatory mites too 😁😁

I hope everyone has a nice relaxing Monday evening 🤗
@MariansOasis Love that flower stalk. Can’t wait to see pics as it progresses! Sorry about the new critters. Hope they won’t be too difficult to eradicate.
@DreamMachine That looks like a lot of work for an #UnMotivatedMonday ! I worked about 8 hours between Saturday and Sunday afternoons. At least Sunday was remote work. Weekend work makes me highly unmotivated and a little less productive the following week.
@RefinedSandwort yes, same girl! I work Friday to Sunday now, and Monday is usually (hopefully) my day to flail around and moan about how tired I am 😂 But I’ve got a sick hubby, 😷 so I decided I could try to do those two while I was up and about anyways. We’ll see, I might regret my productivity tomorrow 🙄
@DreamMachine I like it 😃😊think I’ll coy cat; not with a Hoya seeing that mine is on its last leg lol but I thinking a trellis like that for my pathos: I know I know pain in the you know what lol but it’s worth it in the end. My friend 👍🏽🙏🏽 they look great by the way!
@DreamMachine 🙏🏽
@MariansOasis and #TheWateringHole Good evening from hot and humid GA! Not much happening in my oasis other than a lot of watering over the weekend and new growth here and there. Recently, I noticed a leaf on my gold tooth aloe that was yellowing and seemed a little soft. I was afraid of root rot. I pulled the leaf off only to find a bunch of new growth underneath! The previously discovered pups are continuing to grow in. Just as I was beginning to think 🤔 my Thanksgiving cacti hadn’t started putting out new growth I looked and yes, growth season has started. My little echeveria Dionysus leaf prop is still surviving. I squirt a little water 💧 around it every few days or so. No weekend plans here yet. Just hope I can have the weekend off and maybe an extra day. I still haven’t taken my Memorial Day holiday yet!
@Preciousplants1 by all means! I get Yard Gard 16 gauge 2x3” fencing in a big roll. You do have to use wire cutters for it, but for me the convenience and budget friendly nature of it seal the deal for me! I’ll take a pic of the label, in case you want to get the same! 🥰🫶
@Preciousplants1 thank you Sherri, I’ll post pictures as the spike develops and begins to turn red. ❤️💚
@MariansOasis I’m so excited, can’t wait to see. I’m definitely interested in getting something after all the bugs I’ve faced. lol thrips gnats and leaf-legged things not to mention the mosquitoes. Thank you so muck 🙏🏽
@DreamMachine first of all I LOVE your rabbit 🐰 fence trellis! What a good idea 👍.
What’s in the little cup in your first pic??
The a. bakeri is self pollinating & I didn’t sow any seeds from last flowering. I still have 6 from the maiden seedlings 🌱 and as much as I enjoyed it I just don’t have enough friends interested in plants. Post some pics of your baby pallidiflorums!!
This week I was ‘MotivatedMonday’ 😆 watered 21 plants, gave an orchid a 2nd treatment for thrips and planted 4 agaves on the bank in the front yard 🏡.
Well…you know a lot more than most of us regarding beneficials you’re my resident expert 🤭🤗🙌. No I didn’t reach out to anyone yet. I’m a bit overwhelmed by finding thrips, then mealies on the callistophylla and now possible flat mites. Once I settle down I will definitely try. 😮‍💨 😅
Do you have to work this weekend?? 🇺🇸
@RefinedSandwort hi Joy! I hope it’s cooled off some for you this evening 🪭. That gold tooth aloe’s new growth is adorable ☺️. It’s great your TG cactus is growing. Mine just shot out a random flower 🌸 😆. I have some leaf props from various succs that I do the same thing with, just some dribbles of water 💧 now and then keeps them going🙌👍
Um hey lady - take your Memorial AND 4th of July holiday and make it a 6 day weekend 🇺🇸🙌😆😆😆😆
@Preciousplants1 😮‍💨 Sherri, you have been through so much !!! You deserve some peace the rest of the year!!!!
@RefinedSandwort Ugh! I agree with Marian @MariansOasis and think you should have a double weekend, and throw in an extra day too, take a 7 day week long weekend!! At least your little surprise pups are adorable 🥰 🥹
@MariansOasis and thank you! I got the idea from Doug Chamberlain of Vermont hoyas who saw someone else doing it! 😄 Maybe I’ll snap a pic tomorrow if anyone is interested, but I use wire cutters to snip out the bottom most horizontal wires so that I have a kind of built in stake, if that description makes any sense! 😅

That first picture, in the little cup, are the anthurium pallidiflorum sprouts! They’re still teeny tiny, but that cup has two little green leaves, that’s them! 🥰

And wow, you certainly did have a ‘Motivated Monday!’ 🤭😲 Nicely done!

I do have to work this weekend but I’m not sure if we’ll be that busy 🤔 🤷‍♀️ I don’t really remember it being nuts last year, so it might be nice to have a mellow work weekend for once!

Good morning dear Marian and gals!

You must be looking forward to that new flower spike turning bright red and then forming fat seeds. It continuously amazes me how incredibly perfect Nature is. Every living thing is unique. A miracle! 😇

As far as my activities go for this week and weekend: We're experiencing the hottest "most dangerous" temperatures so far this year. Folks are advised to stay inside with air conditioning, if possible.

Since I'm retired, I'm a lucky one to be able to hunker down with my plants, Greg, telly, etc.
Went out yesterday around 7am to get produce and a few other things at our local Farm Store...

Nadia...those photos you posted are awesome! Looking at your plants and others who post theirs, I'm realizing how unusual they are as compared to mine!
They seem to be more challenging 🤔😘

Wishing all of you lovely peeps a swell week and weekend!

A couple of photos to share from our Tribe... 😍😘🤗🤗
@CutePolypremum good morning!!☀️ Dangerous temperatures 😳 😮 How hot 🥵 is it supposed to be? Greg, Telly 📺 and plants sounds good for keeping activity down 😌.
Your pic of Silver Dragon and croton is beautiful! Great specimens of both! 🙌🏆🥇
@MariansOasis

Awwwww...the two cuties...Silver Dragon and Croton are blushing from your compliment. They both whispered "thank you, Marian"

So...heat index of up to 112 degrees.
It's the humidity that makes it a nightmare 😐

I can take the dry heat but the humidity? 😶😶😶😶

I feel sorry for the people who work outside (except lifeguards 😆) and all of Nature's critters.

Anyhoo...
I've been thinking about you and your horse shows. Are there any coming up soon?
@CutePolypremum your tribe is looking 👀 good! Stay cool 🆒!
@MariansOasis I have those same stacking tables!! I love them. Just ordered from Amazon and I may order again. Very affordable!
