I was out working on some of my berries again when I stum...

I was out working on some of my berries again when I stumbled upon this perlite that also contains silica. While some people may not be fond of silica, I personally prefer it and find it more beneficial than other options. In fact, I highly recommend it over nitrogen, which can be more detrimental to your plants than silica. I was caught in a rainstorm and decided to sprinkle some perlite silica on my strawberries 🍓, as they are more susceptible to crown rot and root rot due to their shallow roots. 😉 🫶🏻🌻🩵🐝 but this silica perlite blend is called EasyGo (brand name) but it’s called ‘Harvest Hero’ on Amazon 🐞 #HappyPlants #PlantsMakePeopleHappy #PlantAddict #TheWateringHole #TheThread #NewGrowth #PropagationStation #PlantTherapy #GrowLights #PetsAndPlants #PlantCorner #BeforeAndAfter #PlantShelfie #RarePlants #PlantID #OutdoorGrowing
My greenhouse is an absolute mess. I am so excited to get it cleaned out, but it’s going to take a little more time, so I can’t move plants till it’s warm enough at night. We can’t hear till after Mother’s Day. We can have freezes till then. 😩😮‍💨
Everything is sure looking ready for spring? Are those raspberries that are crawling out of the beds?
@Idplantthat
not me: immediately opening Amazon and searching for Harvest Hero
Also not me: oooooo berries
@IWantThatPlant, you’ll absolutely love it! I ended up getting the larger bags; they last for quite a while, and I believe they offer better value for money. 😉 I’m eagerly curious to know your thoughts on it!
@debbiedo Oh my goodness, yes! That’s year two. I planted them last spring from my old beds and got a few more different varieties of colors. I honestly did not know they had so many different varieties of raspberries; to me, they were always just a red berry 😂 but nope, they come in rainbow colors 🩵🐝🫶🏻🌻
@Idplantthat Oh thank you @debbiedo for asking, because I’ve never seen raspberries planted in a bed before! 😱 What made you decide that and not trellising? Are they easier to harvest? My mom and my aunt have wonderful raspberry gardens, (I grew up eating and harvesting raspberries in multiple gardens) I really need to get with the program here and plant some of my own!
Hey, I just saw this and thought of you. Not sure if you were still looking for one. 🤗 plantthestudio on Palmstreet
@Jho yes! I always want them! I know that seller from photos only. I’ve looked at them 😂 they’ve really come down in price; that’s so crazy, but also great to be able to actually get one. I’m definitely going to be looking into that one. 🥰 thanks so much for sharing that, Josh!
@Jho oooh that’s a pretty one 😲🤩
@Idplantthat I came back to share a couple crow pics from this morning. I just love catching them while they’re walking, with one foot raised in the air 😂 2nd pic he’s like, “just give me the snacks already lady! You’re making me nervous!!”
@Idplantthat no prob! They are near me so I can vouch for them, although I do pickups instead of shipping. The weather is turning though so it shouldn’t be too risky even though it’s kinda far. That’s where I got my venom TC and he’s doing really well. You were the one who told me about Fire Tiger so I instantly thought of you, and I remembered how expensive they were at the time! @DreamMachine yeah, so pretty!! I don’t have room for another biggin’ or I’d be tempted!
@DreamMachine Hmm, where to start… ha ha I grew up growing berries and fruit trees. My grandparents had an orchard and a farm, and we had a smaller version but still just an acre compared to multiple acres. My mom’s mom came from Canada, Alberta area where farming still is pretty big. My cousins have big farms… but with this being said, that’s where I made my choice to go the route of raised beds versus in-ground. I love raspberries; arguably one of my favorite fruits; so I have a mix of reds, black raspberries, purple and whites, then hybrid babies… I have a wild in-ground blackberry bush out back, but raspberries and blackberries can’t be grown together and should be avoided being planted anywhere near any nightshade family members (tomatoes especially). You’ll just be asking for diseases. So I did a bunch of research; you’ve seen my notes before 🤣 but since raspberries have stronger roots (not shallow like strawberries or blueberries) but they build massive underground growth; so if you plant them in-ground know they are hard to contain. 🤣 I decided not to trellis yet; only because I planted them last year when I had these particular beds made. I really wasn’t expecting them to grow so much yet… for being there first established season they’ve gone crazy. But I don’t remember trellising when I was younger and my mom said the same thing? So I don’t know 🤷‍♀️ to be really honest
@Idplantthat omg too funny! I just asked my mom for any raspberry canes that she prunes this year, and then I was trying to decide where on my property would be best because we ALSO have a massive blackberry beast out back. Seriously I think it’s going to take over the whole east side of the house. It started out in the back east corner behind the house, and now I have vines wrapping around and coming up near my front door 😳😳😱🫣🫣
@Jho omg JOSH, I remembered! 🙌 I’ve been wanting to show you this monstrosity. 🙃🫣Remember my BMF and his 11 un-fenestrated leaves? And before his 10th leaf I had been moving plants around and accidentally forgot to move him back to his high light location?

WELL. I had since moved him back to a very bright location. Two sansi grow lights on him at all times. ….He unfurled his 12th leaf!!!😱😱🥳 And (you’re never going to believe this) can you guess?

He opened… a…..
…..
….
…. 12th un-fenestrated leaf. 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤪🤪🙃🫠

But you know, at this time, I think I may have finally realized that we’re not a good match him and I, and that’s ok. So, I think I’ll be finding a good home for him. 👋🤧😔

I was able to turn my embarrassment into an educational moment (I hope) by turning his low-light stretched out internodal space into a useful infographic though!
@Idplantthat that is so cool that your grandparents and family had orchards and farms. Sigh! My mom grew up on a farm too! But back east, in Connecticut. Although I absolutely love where I am now, part of me would always think, “did ya have to move to the city, mom? 😏 I want a swimming pond, and my own little black angus calf, and a pony! 😂”

So now I’ve just been attempting to turn my urban property into my own little farm 😂

The raspberries you’re growing sound delicious!! I don’t know if I’ve ever tried purple ones, but my parents had the red and a golden kind I think 🤔 I have such good memories of the raspberry garden—one of my aunts who lived out of state looooved raspberries too, so whenever she’d come to visit we’d head straight to them and pick and eat and catch up 🥰
@DreamMachine oh gosh! Those guys will take over everything in sight! They are so hard to maintain. Ha ha ha 😂 what kind does your mom grow? Are they just the reds? I hadn’t ever tried the white till a couple of years back (really berries I hadn’t grown as much till more recently; and now I’m just obsessed with berry plants) but I feel like that’s most of us here.. we get obsessed with a variety of plants then find another one.. 🤣 it’s a never-ending obsession and struggle to sometimes manage.. but it’s rewarding 🩵🌻🫶🏻🐝 have you ever heard of wine berries? They are very similar to raspberries
@DreamMachine That sounds heavenly! I want to grow up like your mom too! That sounds amazing 😻 and something you don’t really hear about much anymore. 🥺 Oh, have you ever heard of Snow White blackberries? I’m not sure they can grow together, but I’m dying to try them now. 🤭 I can send you a couple of raspberry stocks. Just a fair warning, I’m not 100 percent which are which. 🙃😂 I have this terrible habit of putting a bunch of plants together and letting them grow (thinking I’ll remember…). Once upon a time, I probably would have. 🤣
@Idplantthat you are exactly right! 😂 Obsessed with one variety, and then the next one, then a different species, and on we go!

Whoa! I’ve never heard of wine berries…I mean, assuming you’re not talking about the little teeny wine grapes? 🍇😂 Gosh, I want to try them. That’s one of the best thing’s about growing your own, there are SO many more varieties than at the grocery store 😱 And Snow White Blackberries?? I don’t know why but that name just makes my mouth water 🤤 🤤

I’m not sure what variety my mom grows, probably just whatever standard red she could find! Are you growing elderberries? We’ve got a massive shrub aka small tree of it, but I’ve never been able to beat the birds in the race for elderberries.
@DreamMachine We have two mulberry trees; unfortunately, we haven’t been big fans of the fruit, but omg, they are messy. 😂 So we’ve cut them back; just because the berries stain the cars of parked and suntanned people 😂 so okay, no the grapes are not the wine berries but rather a hybrid-style raspberries? I stumbled across it in one of my multiple insomnia nights.. 🙃🤣 I know something about that Snow White just sounds so yummy. I haven’t gotten them yet, they are on the list.. I’m hoping next year though. Oh you been more coastal you might have great access to this if you haven’t tried it yet; definitely look into it! But lobster 🦞 and crab 🦀 shells are amazing for acidic plants, I mixed them into my blueberries, raspberries and strawberries in the early spring. But don’t know if you’ve tried it before. I actually got from a local nursery it’s just a Neptunes brand.. but it’s great 😉 I know you used the rabbit so I’m not sure if you need any more help 😉🤣
@Idplantthat I can’t wait to get some of my plants outside-they absolutely love the sun!! ☀️
@DreamMachine lol oh no! Do you think incoming summer might help before you relinquish? They seem to be more temperamental than regular monsteras for sure. Mine put out a really nice leaf and then followed up by regressing the fenestration. Nothing changed. 🤷‍♂️ Divas. Now I’m back to trying to find the balance of letting him have afternoon sun without scorching him again.
@DreamMachine @Idplantthat We have our raspberries in beds too. We have some string on posts around them to keep them upright-ish. I moved them two years ago (they were under our kiwi vine and I wanted them to get more sun). They seem to like it ☀️ Not the best pic because it’s from our bedroom window 😂

We only have one variety, but I love them. They came from my parents garden which came from my grandparents garden and they’re a thornless variety ❤️
@HappySelah25 ooh!! What’s in your garden Michelle? 🩵🌻
@debbiedo that’s the best; I have some hostas and irises that came from my parents that came from her parents as well and some from my neighbors’ gardens around thirty years ago. I feel like it’s something cool to keep passing down in our families. My grandpa used to give my grandma new plants every anniversary; so I love 🥰 the remembrance, sounds like you do as well! 🫶🏻🌸🐝 Have you had pretty good yields with your berries? Omg is your kiwi 🥝 the kiwi berries? I planted mine a few years ago and I’m hoping to finally get some this year
@Idplantthat I do love the sentimentality of plants and their stories 💚 Yes our vines are hardy kiwi (kiwi berries). We started with two tiny plants (they looked like sticks). It took a few years before they fruited, but now we get LOTS every fall. Once we’ve had our fill I put a message out to our neighborhood Buy No Plants group inviting them to come pick their own 🙂
@debbiedo that’s so sweet of you to share. You must get a lot of berries. That’s reassuring that they take a little while to really start.
@Idplantthat here’s our kiwi trellis now! 💚
@debbiedo oh my gosh, how long have you had it for? That’s very encouraging to see how thick yours is. I didn’t realize they got so woody. That’s great. 😁
@Idplantthat I have most of my plants currently inside-over 207 of them. I have Snapdragons ready to plant in the corner of my privacy fence in the back yard. I’m going to add corabells as a ground covering under a more than 200 year old huge evergreen tree. I was going to plant veggies this year-at my new house (I had to move to make room for more plants) 🤪 But! sadly I will be going through some major surgeries over the next few months and my hubby is NOT a Planty so they would not get the care they will need. Saving it all for next years season 💕 I can’t wait!
@HappySelah25 oh no, Michelle! Are you alright? Is there anything we can do to help or make recovery easier?
