How to fertilize Princess Of The Night
Most potting soils come with ample nutrients which plants use to produce new growth.
By the time your plant has depleted the nutrients in its soil it’s likely grown enough to need a larger pot anyway.
To replenish this plant's nutrients, repot your Princess Of The Night after it doubles in size or once a year—whichever comes first.

I put onions in dirt and I got this. I don’t know what I have but it is beautiful! Here it think it’s a pipe cactus. I brought inside to keep it alive. I know it doesn’t like direct sunlight but shade. #DutchmansPipe

My plant is four years old and has never gotten a bud or a flower. What’s up with that? #DutchmansPipe

I have had this plant for about 20 years (it was a start from my grandmother’s). It has developed very woody stems from roots. I think this is probably due to its age. Any thoughts or suggestions. Several blossoms this summer 😊 #DutchmansPipe

Good day, How do I get this to thrive

“Queen of the Night” has leaves that seem wrinkled. I just got a plant someone was getting rid of and I’m trying to save her… the leaves are pretty wrinkled. More water? I want to help her!

This is a very late post but long story short: I had to chop and restart my orchid cacti a few months back and after some struggles of leaf burning and thoughts of no hope. There is one new little growth that has decided to show itself to me. I'm not gonna lie, I thought she was a goner. I cannot explain how happy I am. #dutchmanspipe #orchidcactus #newgrowth #happyplants #plantsmakepeoplehappy #plantaddict

Red tips on Epiphyllum oxypetalum (Queen of the night) Had her for a couple months. She’s doing fantastic. I have her under a Spider Farmer SF1000 grow light. At about 12 inches away. I noticed this week bright red tips on new shoots and tips of leaves. Temp is consistent 22 Celsius. 70% humidity. Dry loose soil. Are these flower shoots? I can’t tell , first time owning one. Any input would be appreciated! Thanks! #HappyPlants #PlantsMakePeopleHappy #PlantAddict #NewGrowth #GrowLights #OrchidLovers

Hi there, I just repoted my beloved epi last night in some African violet soil. It was starting to suffer from root rot. I got it from the seller and got excited and over-watered her. What should be my next steps now to make sure she's okay? #DutchmansPipe

Care Summary for Princess Of The Night
Princess Of The Night
Greg recommends:
0.5 cups every 12 days
< 1ft from a window
Repot after 2x growth
Based on the 4” pot your plant is in, and that it doesn’t get direct sunlight.
What other plant parents say
Put it next to a window, any window and it will be happy. I have one in a sw window and another in a nw window and they have big red blooms in mid July. Cut from the stem to propagate in soil or in water. Water about every two weeks, or when it starts to wrinkle. Very easy to care for and pest resistant!
I have had this cactus for five years. It flowers every year, beautiful red blooms. I haven’t always cared for it the best way I could have done in the past, but it’s still here. It needs space as it can grow outwards as well as upwards.
I have it positioned on a window sill of a south facing window. It’s fed and watered weekly. Since repotting it, there is an amazing amount of new growth.
My husband received our Dutchman’s pipe cactus as a gift from an old boss of his named Kevin Jones that he used to work for 13 years ago. We have yet to see it bloom but we’ve heard that it’s very fragrant when it blooms and it will smell up the entire room of the house that its in. Looking forward to seeing it bloom some day. We were told that you need to propagate off the mother plant prior to it blooming because once it blooms the plant starts to die off.
