About Ficus umbellata
Did you know that all plants in the Ficus genus produce figs? In fact, the word Ficus quite literally means figs! Even cooler, all figs are pollinated by tiny wasps that use the fruits as a safe place to raise their young. 🐝 Ficus plants also contain latex which emerges as a milky sap when twigs are broken. This latex makes them toxic, so be sure to keep a close eye out if you have children or pets!

How to fertilize Ficus umbellata

Most potting soils come with ample nutrients which plants use to produce new growth.
By the time your plant has depleted the nutrients in its soil it’s likely grown enough to need a larger pot anyway.
To replenish this plant's nutrients, repot your Ficus umbellata after it doubles in size or once a year—whichever comes first.

Yellow leaf with black spots? I noticed that a leaf started yellowing on my ficus umbellata, but it doesn’t feel like it’s dying and the stem still seems pretty healthy. And then I noticed some black spots forming on the leaf. Does anyone have an idea of what might be going on?

What’s up with my #AudreyFicus ? I’ve had her for almost a year. Haven’t had any issues until now. I water every 7-10 days. Just watered a few days ago and noticed some leaves on the bottom are dying. It’s in the same pot and soil as I bought it, should I #repot it? Or chop it and propagate it? #SadPlant #Ficus #help #HappyPlants #PlantsMakePeopleHappy

Ficus tips?? Hey #GregGang! I’ve acquired THREE new ficus trees in the last couple months #FicusTineke , #FicusGinseng & #FiddleLeafFig ) and they’re all doing okay, BUT I can’t honestly claim they’ve improved, and have possibly declined, from the condition in which I got them. I know I’m missing something obvious. What makes these guys happy??🙏 #FicusGang #Ficus #FicusFam

Check it out! Atrio had a visitor using its foliage as a spa to do some heavy exfoliating. #FicusGang #RJGsPatio #FicusFam #GregGang

I think I’m growing a green thumb🪴🥰 Last month I ordered little ficus umbellatas from a nursery and when I received the delivery they seemed fine, but lost a lot of leaves a week or so later. Probably from shock and/or cold weather conditions. So I watched a video on notching ficuses and using Keiki Crazy cloning paste and did just that. A week and a half later, I’m starting to see tiny little shoots popping out from the notches (and in places I didn’t notch). I can’t wait to see how she’ll grow this spring and summer 🌱 #HappyPlants #NewGrowth #PlantsMakePeopleHappy #PlantMommy

What other plant parents say

I thought my ficus would die because she was losing leaves pretty quickly. But I watched a YT video on notching and used Keiki Crazy Cloning Paste and she’s come right back to life - growing more leaves than I could ever imagine. Can’t wait to see how tall she will grow.
