About Variegated Rubber Tree
Ficus elastica, more commonly known as the rubber tree, has a white, milky latex that is a source of natural rubber. This variety is known for its leaves and their unique patterns and colors 🎨 They’ve been shown to have excellent antimicrobial and antioxidant properties. The aerial roots of the rubber tree have been used to create incredible living bridges in India. The bridges get stronger over time as the roots slowly fuse together, and some are over a hundred years old! 🌉

How to fertilize Variegated Rubber Tree
Most potting soils come with ample nutrients which plants use to produce new growth.
By the time your plant has depleted the nutrients in its soil it’s likely grown enough to need a larger pot anyway.
To replenish this plant's nutrients, repot your Variegated Rubber Tree after it doubles in size or once a year—whichever comes first.

Browning on leaves This is a new plant that I’ve kept beneath my window in a spot that doesn’t get direct sun but has quite a bit of light. I’ve only had it for ~1-2 weeks and have noticed browning on the leaves. Does anyone know what might be causing this? I’ve watered it ~ once a week and allowed the water to drain fully.

#FicusElastica Hi there #GregCommunity , I have a question about my ficus elastica ‘Ruby,’ (a newer acquisition) that I haven’t been able to find for myself. When I got her, she arrived looking pretty healthy but with two wonky older lower leaves. It’s like they’re ruffled or rippled. I read underwatered ficus elastica leaves will curl under, but I can’t figure out what these leaves indicate, since she arrived like that. I’m not too worried, since she has put out a new leaf in the meantime that looks good, but I am just curious what could cause that rippling. Thank you! #PlantsMakePeopleHappy #HappyPlants #PlantAddict #help #Question #questions #nadiabynature

Browning leaf Any idea what could be causing this browning? I water it according to Greg's suggested schedule. It has a grow light on for 12 hours. Soil feels moist, but not too wet. There is no drainage in the pot.

Last night something happened and long story short I have an issue. My rubber tree plant got knocked over. It was in a plastic pot so luckily I was able to repot it right away. It has some broken leaves that are now gone. It was just repotted a month or so ago so I was really hoping this tragedy isn’t going to stress it out too much. Giving it lots of outdoor love today while the suns is out. Any suggestions to help it through tragedy close to being repotted?

The story of the Lobotomy Clan. 🌱 I was thinking to myself last night some folks would love some context and back story to this silly name I gave my plant, let’s have a giggle, So here we go! 🤣 The once was a very sad purple heart plant on Facebook market place, I went to her rescue as I felt called to her. At my arrival her Mother this nice Russian lady with a gorgeous accent passed me over soon to be, the greatest plant I own. On our drive home I inspected the poor plant as her leaves were all dying and her soil was dense and soaked. I knew she would be a root rott survivor I would not let her down. Once we arrived to my laboratory (AKA my bathroom) I inspected the soil and with great dread I did confirm the awful plague of Root rott. BUT before I could pull out my tools and assess the best treatment, the purple heart plant fell to the ground from the counter(To her almost demise). Her already broken and dead leaves and stems turned into shambles into seconds. At that moment I realized that our usual treatment of simply washing the root and pulling out any rott and singing to her and rocking her to sleep before I replant her would simply not be enough. I rested the purple heart plant and I put her under sleep to start surgery. (AKA I turned off the lights so she could fall asleep) I proceeded with a full blown Lobotomy, every single stem needed to go, with the little Roots that were saved it could not possibly thrive trying to fix the mess it was in. When Lobotomy Awoke from surgery she was feeling a lot better, her story is to be remembered. Life did not want me to save this plant but we did not give up on her treatment. Lobotomy the great has now inspired the birth of Lobotomy the II AND her younger Brother Lobotomy the III. Unfortunately the Lobotomy’s II & III are still recovering from treatment, and will update the once we see some new growth. As they are figs they will take more time to recover post surgery. Moral of the story, even if the plant has root rot and flew off your counter and broke to pieces if theres green there’s always something to save! We can hope 🤣🥲 Also life is short, don’t forget to laugh it’s good for you and your plants will love it to! 🌱🪴💚 PS: OG picture of Lobotomy the Great post surgery! #lobotomythegreatupdates #lobotomyclan #lobotomythegreat #purpleheartplant #lobotomyII #lobotomyIII #louisxvioasis

I have the regular ficus that’s just dark green and loved how easy that grew so this is the same but the leaves almost look like they’re painted. It grows so quickly, every time a leave blooms I see another one shooting up. Can’t wait for it to grow taller!

I have only had my Tineke for 6-7 months, but in that time it has been a very very very slow grower. The leaves will get brown mushy spots if you overwater. Let it dry 100% and it’s otherwise easy! I’ve successfully (and quickly) water propagated two babies from small stems.

It wasn’t my favorite at first, but I’ve grown to love it. It’s easy to keep even when you don’t pay too much attention to it. Through my ownership of three month, it was moved from three pots and two spots on the house, but it stands unaffected. The leaves can get a little dull and needs dusting from time to time, but I don’t mind shining it.
