How to fertilize Ctenanthe Burle-Marxii

Most potting soils come with ample nutrients which plants use to produce new growth.
By the time your plant has depleted the nutrients in its soil it’s likely grown enough to need a larger pot anyway.
To replenish this plant's nutrients, repot your Ctenanthe Burle-Marxii after it doubles in size or once a year—whichever comes first.

Stubborn Mealybug Invasion on Calathea 💀 Does anyone have any advice for dealing with Mealybugs on a large Calathea? I’ve been spot treating with a q-tip soaked in rubbing alcohol and spritzing with a solution of water, rubbing alchohol and peppermint soap for two weeks now. It’s so easy for them to hide in the rolled up new leaves and stem crevices, I feel like I’m going nowhere. Any tips are appreciated! #CalatheaCrew #Calathea #PestControl

Spots on calathea I have spendt many hours searcing about this before. And the internet just don't seem to give me any more answers by now 😅 I tend to get some of these spots every winter. It doesn't seem to bother the plant, and in spring again new leaves comes and no new spots until it now starts again 😑 After last winter I thougt it might be a little too much water or low humidity. The humidity should not be an issue now, and I really thougt I had gotten a hang on the watering. But I guess maybe it stays wet a little too long now. It has a bit cold nights now (reaches just below 17 celsius, but it didn't last year). I water it aprox every 16. days. It sometimes ejects small sugary drops on the leaves (there are no bugs doing this!). I know roses and orchids do that when they are too dry, but that doesn't make sense either 😅 The spots gets darker when I wipe it with a softh cloth, so the leaf has a puncture probably from ejecting sweet sap.. (i can't believe there are bugs🪲 I have searched through everything with microscope now and last winter...). Have been thinking of fungus too, but it doesn't make sense either as it is just here wintertime🤷♀️ It usually dries out to a brown spot after a while. First photo is from my microscope. I did fertelize it just a little last watering, could fertelize-burn cause this? Sorry long post. You guys have any thoughts? #cathedralwindows #calatheacrew #calathea #plantsmakepeoplehappy #goeppertia

Behold! The tiniest leaf there ever was 😆 So tiny Elle has now opened her first leaf, and it is sooo tiny! The pictures just don't seem to show right how tiny it is, even with my fingers in it 😂 But I'm hoping she will continue growing in to a big queen! Also Fernando (Elle's dad) is growing his new leaves too. @KrunchyWrap💚🌱 #calatheacrew #yellowfusion #freshleaffriday #growbabygrow #survivorplantssaturday #plantsmakepeoplehappy

💨 Humidity
Ctenanthe Burle-Marxii prefers dry environments. Providing extra humidity or misting your plant allows water to linger on leaves, which can create the perfect environment for harmful types of fungi.
🪴 Soil
Ctenanthe Burle-Marxii is very sensitive to dry soil, so choose a potting soil that retains moisture. A good soil will still drain well and contain lots of organic matter such as coco coir or sphagnum moss.
💩 Fertilizer
Ctenanthe Burle-Marxii should be repotted after it doubles in size or once a year, whichever comes first. Fresh potting soil has all the nutrients your plant needs, so as long as it’s refreshed yearly, you shouldn’t need to use fertilizer. Remember, plants get their energy from sunlight, not fertilizer!
🌎 Native Region
Ctenanthe Burle-Marxii is native to Tropical Americas.
🌱 Propagation
Ctenanthe Burle-Marxii can be propagated by division into new individual plants.
- Check to see if there is more than one plant. In some cases they may still be beneath the soil surface. If you feel confident, you may remove the soil to check for baby plantlets below!
- If there are multiple plants growing, unpot the plant and gently tug the plants apart, being careful not to disturb too many of the roots. They may be connected by large root segments which you may need to break to free the plantlet.
- Pot up the new plant in well-draining soil
- Repot the parent plant back into its original pot
🧐 Troubleshooting
When troubleshooting a sad-looking houseplant, start by checking for signs of distress in its leaves, such as yellowing, browning, or drooping, which can indicate overwatering or nutrient deficiencies.
Inspect the soil moisture; too dry or too wet soil can cause problems.
Ensure the plant is getting the right amount of light, as too much or too little can stress it.
Finally, consider environmental factors like temperature and humidity, and adjust care routines accordingly to revive your plant.
