About Green Velvet Alocasia
Alocasias, commonly known as Elephant Ears, are some of the most common houseplants although their leaves can reach enormous sizes when grown outdoors! 🐘 They typically only support a few leaves at a time (more, when they get more sun!) so don't be concerned if you see an old leaf begin to retire after a new one emerges. They grow out of underground corms which are similar to bulbs, so next time you repot keep an eye out for baby Alocasias! They contain calcium oxalate crystals so be sure to keep them out of reach if you have children or pets! ⚠️

How to fertilize Green Velvet Alocasia
Most potting soils come with ample nutrients which plants use to produce new growth.
By the time your plant has depleted the nutrients in its soil it’s likely grown enough to need a larger pot anyway.
To replenish this plant's nutrients, repot your Green Velvet Alocasia after it doubles in size or once a year—whichever comes first.

My Green Velvet Alocasia is Droopy? I have a green velvet alocasia, and for the past little bit it’s been droopy. It’s growing a new leaf, but the two leaves that are all ready up have been turning down and getting pale around the edges. It’s got good indirect light (west facing basement window), the soil is kept damp all the time, and I’ve given it plant food as well. Any tips? I’m new to this plant! #GreenVelvetAlocasia #AlocasiaAddicts #droopyleaf #helpneeded #PlantsMakePeopleHappy #HappyPlants #PlantAddict #PlantTherapy

Alocasia’s leaves are facing down Hey hi! I would love to hear your thoughts 🌿 This is my very first Alocasia and despite feeling like it is doing rather well, its leaves occasionally start to droop a fair bit. Contrary to what I feel should be the case, there’s no mushiness to the stems. They are firm! It’s almost like the leaves are too heavy and gravity is forcing the stems down, which also doesn’t feel quite right. At the moment it’s quite warm where I live. Since I got this beauty a little less than a month ago, it has produced two new leaves and it seems like there are two different shoots near its base. So far, whenever it turned droopy, I gave it some more water and that seemed to allow the leaves to become a little firmer, as those too are quite soft. That would have them perk up again. However, the soil is still damp and has never really dried out between watering. Before I continuously make a mistake and risk slowly killing my plant, I want to make sure what I am doing is right. Any thoughts on the best course of action? #AlocasiaAddicts

I can see why people love their Alocasia Frydeks so much now. There’s just something about them in person and pictures just don’t do them justice. #HappyPlants #Alocasia #AlocasiaAddicts #AlocasiaFrydek

Need advice on Alocasia This is my new alocasia frydek. I’ve only had it a few days and have been suspicious of root rot, so today I took it out of the pon it came it and removed all the root rot. I found healthy “water roots” a nice corm and a tiny green bulb, possibly another corm growing out of the side. Can I soak this whole root mass with corms in a water peroxide solution? Will the corm grow a new plant if I leave it attached? Should I repot in soil or will that be a shock to the plant. I don’t want to use more pon, because I don’t have quick access to it. I do have leca, potting mix, tropical potting mix and perlite. The hardware store may have some other things I can mix in. They do not carry pon. Thanks in advance! I want to havee this be a healthy happy plant! #AlocasiaAddicts #Alocasia #AlocasiaFrydek #HappyPlants #RootRot #NewGrowth #corms #GregGang #PropagationStation

Is there a difference between Alocasia Frydek and Alocasia Micholitziana ‘green velvet’ ? I just got this plant yesterday. It was listed as a Frydek by the person selling it. But when trying to identify it on Greg it was hard to pin point if it was one or the other. #PlantAddict #NewPlantMom #ADHDPLANTLOVERS #NeurodivergentandPlanty #AlocasiaAddicts #AlocasiaFrydek #Alocasia
