Alocasiaโ€™s leaves are facing down

Hey hi!
I would love to hear your thoughts ๐ŸŒฟ

This is my very first Alocasia and despite feeling like it is doing rather well, its leaves occasionally start to droop a fair bit. Contrary to what I feel should be the case, thereโ€™s no mushiness to the stems. They are firm! Itโ€™s almost like the leaves are too heavy and gravity is forcing the stems down, which also doesnโ€™t feel quite right.

At the moment itโ€™s quite warm where I live. Since I got this beauty a little less than a month ago, it has produced two new leaves and it seems like there are two different shoots near its base. So far, whenever it turned droopy, I gave it some more water and that seemed to allow the leaves to become a little firmer, as those too are quite soft. That would have them perk up again. However, the soil is still damp and has never really dried out between watering.

Before I continuously make a mistake and risk slowly killing my plant, I want to make sure what I am doing is right.

Any thoughts on the best course of action?

Humidity may be a factor. They like it pretty high.
Do you ever fertilize? Alocasia are pretty heavy feeders also. But I'd lean towards humidity. Also alocasia will always lose the oldest leaves and it starts with drooping. So if it's the bottoms it's probably just leaf turnover
@TheConservator It is mainly to the bottom leaves! I did just find a couple thrips on its leaves, so I will start treatments against that right away.

I think it may have something to do with humidity indeed. Itโ€™s cooling down now and the leaves are getting firmer again, so perhaps itโ€™s a matter of water evaporating faster than the plant can handle.

If the latter is the case, would you advise against watering the alocasia before the soil has dried? As the problem wouldnโ€™t be related to having too little access to water in the soil โ€ฆ
@LichenQueen oh yeah mites and thrips love alocasia meat๐Ÿ˜ˆ! lol I use systemic insecticides and it keeps em at bay it seams if you want to try it. And if you can get it!
I've heard that alocasia actually produce a scent that draws attracts them๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ not sure if it's true? But they sure love em, so wouldn't surprise me
@TheConservator Oh my ๐Ÿ˜‚

There were really only a couple and I believe they came in with the plant, but I have had over 50 plants for years now and never had I seen a single thrip, so Iโ€™ll be going all out with predatory mites, nematodes, and black soap plant spray in an attempt to smother this before it becomes a genuine problem haha

Either way, thanks for your input! It makes me feel a little more secure about my response haha
The nice thing is the leaves are big and just a few. I shower mine with a hard spray every few weeks just to knock any stragglers off
It's easy enough to just wipe em off really
I used sellotape just now haha, but I regularly shower my other plants too so thatโ€™s no problem
