I was talking to Jon on the phone for well over an hour yesterday and he enlightened me on one thing I wanted and thought I needed to share with everyone. #ljplantnursery The best time of day to repot your plants is of the evening. I honestly didn’t know that. Me beingg the curious person I am I had to find out why. Some of you may already know this. THIS ONE WE ALL PRETTY MUCH KNOW: Spring is ideal for repotting a houseplant. Plants often go dormant in the winter and begin growing again as daylight hours increase in the spring. Repotting gives them the room they need to grow. But that doesn’t mean you have to wait for spring. If a plant is showing signs of stress or poor health, go ahead and repot any time of year. THIS I DIDN’T KNOW: Try to repot in the evening if possible. “At night, in the absence of bright sunlight, the plant’s metabolism slows down, so it has a chance to recover from repotting stress,”. #whentorepotaplant

Nepenthes vs Venus Fly Traps/Sundews...Oh so different! #cpclubthursday Hi CP Club Members We had a great response to this week's Club Thursday so thanks for the contributions and new club members who joined. A club member raised a great question I want to answer here. What's the difference in the growing conditions and requirements of Nepenthes pitcher plants (N) compared to Venus Fly Traps (VFTs), Sarracenia Pitcher Plants and Sundews (bog plants) As I hinted above, bog plants grow in areas like North Carolina in the USA where there is lots of sun in summer and constant wet conditions, growing close to the ground. Ns are tropical plants from places like South East Asia (eg Borneo/Philippines) so similar conditions to orchids. They also grow on trees like orchids in mountainous areas, not on the ground. So the more you understand these differences, the better you can adapt your conditions to suit their needs! Happy to answer any more questions below. Happy #cpclubthursday !! After a long stressful day I got home to a wonderful surprise! More Venus fly trap blooms! But here's the reason why I was so excited: They were on different plants which means I can pollinate them to get seeds!! Woo! I can't wait 😁 On the topic of #venusflytrap s, one of my rehab vfts from Home Depot seems to finally be making a recovery. My #sarracenia Flava is putting up TONS of pitchers!! The Day Has Come!!! Today “King Homer” has been seated on his Throne of Glory! 😂😂 He can now rule with a Fair and Just hand of Power! 😂😂 Honestly I love it! This Mario Portal Pipe measures 5” High and 3 “ wide (in the middle) with drainage. I opted for the Mario Bro brick water catcher to keep King Homer nice and hydrated! We have a layer of rock inside the pipe at the base. Then a mix of carnivorous soil/sand and sphagum moss to the top with about a half inch to spare. CP CLUB THURSDAY for September 5th, 2024 Welcome to #cpclubthursday 🌟NOW 180 MEMBERS !🌟 SPECIAL FEATURE: The 3 Sundew Sisters: Tropical Sundews - the Drosera adelae, D. prolifera, and D. schizandra. #3sundewsisters I have extracted the following information on these 3 sundew sisters: Originating from tropical Australian Queensland, Drosera adelae, D. prolifera and D. schizandra, three closely related species, are considered as the 3 Sisters. These species are endemic to far north Queensland. They are unique to the genus in that they are found growing exclusively in rainforest habitat. Peter D'Amato has referred to Drosera adelae, D. prolifera, and D. schizandra as the three sisters from Queensland. The leaves of mature plants are about as different looking as any sisters could be but they are more closely related to each other than they are to any other Drosera. And like any three sisters, each has different growing preferences. But they are united in that juvenile plants do have similar leaves and the flowers are similar as well. The tropical Drosera adelae, D. prolifera, and D. schizandra are about as close as you can get to jungle sundews. There are other Drosera that live in tropical regions and overlap the range of these species such as Drosera burmannii, D. indica, D. banksii, and D. spatulata, but they are not restricted to the wet tropical habitats and are definitely not jungle or rainforest plants. Well, actually, there is now a new sister! Recently a fourth "sister" was discovered and it was named Drosera buubugujin. So a tiny plant shop popped up in the shop where I work ( Yes, dangerous, I know. lol). The owner is very sweet and gave me a Venus fly trap that, in her words, “needs a little extra love and care.” JOY!
