So the problem of the day is dormancy. The plants in the greenhouse are about to face Houston’s scorching summer. I’ve set up fans and shade for those that will be going dormant and allowing my winter dormant plants to enjoy the sunshine without drying up. When I water I need to know who’s who. So to save having to write on labels I decided to use a color scheme with yellow for summer dormant and light blue for winter. Oh and they asked me if I wanted to add something to my order. Hello everyone, I hope you’re having a great weekend. I visited the Florida master gardeners nursery in Hernando County Florida today. I bought a giant plume ginger and an Indian blanket plant. Your County may have master gardeners nurseries also. This sweet girl is actually looking beautiful after her accidental beheading. I felt so bad for Alice in Wonderlanding her.. So a lot of people don't like the devil's backbone cactus. Very easy cactus to take care of. I got this from my neighbor. The original plant that this was propagated off of has been in his family since he was a child. My neighbor is well into his late 70s. He had this plant 2 years before he gave it to me. Hello everyone, here is a before and after photo of my Persian shield plant. This is the plant that was eaten by a rat in March. I thought the plant was finished. Fortunately, I did see little green leaves which can be seen in this photo and I thought I would try to save it. The photo on the left was just after it was eaten. Hello everyone. This is a photo of my hibiscus plant. It was damaged severely by the extended frost we had here in Central Florida. I thought I had lost it. I cut it down to the ground and saw small green leaves at its base. That was about three months ago. I’m not sure how long these plants live. The Internet says about 5-10 years. I planted this plant 40 years ago in 1986. It has a very extensive root system. It has been hit by frost multiple times through the decades and it’s always managed to survive.
