Happy Thursday #TheWateringHole !! ✨🌿 Quite a few of us seem to have had very exciting days yesterday, I for one am hoping for a nice calm Thursday 🤞 As for #pedunclewatch I am up to FIVE peduncles on my Hoya ‘Bella.’ I don’t know how I missed those other two on such a tiny plant, but I did. 😅 What an overachiever! Hello my loves 🫶🌿 Happy Tuesday #TheWateringHole , or should I say, happy #untidytuesday 😏 (It’s ALWAYS #untidytuesday at my house, ha ha ha! 😂😄…🥺😭😭 ) It’s been hot here, the last few days (80° F 🥵) and we are all looking forward to rain 🌧️ ☔️ tomorrow and in the 60°’s again, ahhh 🧘‍♀️. Plus that means I might not have to water anything outside 🤞🤞 I’ve been putzing around, doing planty chores, and checking on all my props from @IdPlantThat 🥰 Practically EVERYONE has been doing great 🙌 My new favorite method of propagating!: Perlite + a ziplock bag + my own hot air 🌬️ I live in a cool, wet climate, as most of you know already, and I had horrible luck with sphag. It always molds 🦠 instantly, or at least, within 12 hours 😵‍💫 I love this perlite + bag method because it is not inducive to mold growth, roots grown in perlite are more like soil roots already, and each bag is its own humidity box AND quarantine station! Ive never had luck with calatheas or in geberal with plants that need higher humidity but somehow, wver since i got this one few weeks ago it sprouted and keeps sprouting new leaves + its been flowering like crazy….its really loving the place i feel! Good morning planty people of #TheWateringHole ✨🌿🫶 It is Monday, and I’m busy hurrying around watering everyone outside, as it’s lovely and 60° right now, but we’re supposed to get up to 85°, and if you know me, that is hot, hot, HOT 🥵 I am hoping to get back into the swing of regular posting, but I just had a very couple busy weeks, with picking up a regular shift at work, a trip to the coast 🌊 , and we’re getting into the last couple weeks of school for my kiddo. 🏃🏼‍♀️🍎⏰ But BIG NEWS!! We are on #pedunclewatch !!! 😱🥳🤩 Since I got into hoyas last summer, I’ve only had the start and subsequent blasting of a couple peduncles on one hoya, my crassipetiolata, but it was just the beginning of winter, and he got too cold and gave up on them. 🥶😔 Who’s the contender this time? My sweet Hoya ‘Bella,’ whom I got only last month, as a cutting in perlite, from my hoya lady on FB marketplace!! Bella is STILL in that cup of perlite, I didn’t get a chance to pot her up yet, and she has 3, count em’ THREE pedunkadunks starting 😱😮‍💨🤯🤩 As my photos will be peduncles, I’ll add my bountiful morning’s strawberry 🍓 harvest photo in the comments, along with my Mother’s Day snapdragon bloom, and my dahlias (not in bloom yet). How’s everyone’s Monday? Any blooms or new growth that you’re excited about? Any struggling? Good morning Wednesday #TheWateringHole 🫶🌿🌤️ How is everyone doing in their neck of the woods? I, like quite a number of #greggers , have some pests in my indoor collection. Broad mites. (Booo hiss!!) They are minuscule, to a lot of people they are microscopic, 1/4 of a millimeter 🤏 small , but I can see them. They look like little dust specks moving around without magnification. They are notoriously hard to contain because of their size. Not only can they come in on a plant, they are so small they can float on a breeze through a window screen. 🦋🐝 How did I find them? I had a few very strange new leaves on two hoyas. They curled in on themselves, lost their shiny luster, appeared grey, and fell off (with my tweezer into a baggie) at a mere touch. I shall post those leaves. You can treat with neem, although it is a lot of labor involved, so this time and with the knowledgeable advice of @MusicalRedmint Susann, I am going PREDATORY MITES. This website DMV Beneficials is amazing. https:// They are a US-based service that offers free consultations to figure out what you’re dealing with and what would be the best predatory bug to help. If you have a pest situation and are feeling a little overwhelmed, reach out to them, they help people all over the states get connected with suppliers of good bugs. They also keep your budget in mind. And it seems like prices are not as bad as they used to be! I may be able to contain my pest issue for less than $50 😮‍💨😮‍💨. And if you are in another country, I highly encourage you to look around for beneficial suppliers near you 🦋🐞 And if you’re in Oregon or Washington, here is the supplier I will most likely be going with. You can check out their prices, only about $1 per sachet! https:// The mites I’m selecting are also microscopic, so you don’t have to see them in your house if that freaks you out.
