Victims of a Cape Sundew Welcome to #cpclubthursday Thursday AUGUST the 29th, 2024 🌟NEARLY 175 MEMBERS !🌟 So just wanted to share some photos of what I saw on some of my sundews today. What I like is how the dewy leaves can capture prey on both sides of the leaf so talk about doubling up your chances of catching a flying insect as has occurred on one leaf I spotted. Then I saw what I thought was an insect sitting on top of a sundew leaf and being cheeky ! But it’s actually stuck there as it couldn’t take off when I went to scare it off ! So I had no problems with taking my time to take a few photos of this captured insect. The leaf has already responded by bending over its prey to aid its digestion. Feast away. @MusicalRedmint Susann, I though you may particular enjoy these photos ! 😃👍🪰⚰️🪦RIP I have added many posts about the conditions and care of various CPs in previous #cpclubthursday so I recommend people follow the hashtag, may of them also have my own group #seymour so may be easier to find there. Add any interesting Carnivorous Plant (CP) facts, photos, or anything CP-related for this week. CP CLUB THURSDAY for September 5th, 2024 Welcome to #cpclubthursday 🌟NOW 180 MEMBERS !🌟 SPECIAL FEATURE: The 3 Sundew Sisters: Tropical Sundews - the Drosera adelae, D. prolifera, and D. schizandra. #3sundewsisters I have extracted the following information on these 3 sundew sisters: Originating from tropical Australian Queensland, Drosera adelae, D. prolifera and D. schizandra, three closely related species, are considered as the 3 Sisters. These species are endemic to far north Queensland. They are unique to the genus in that they are found growing exclusively in rainforest habitat. Peter D'Amato has referred to Drosera adelae, D. prolifera, and D. schizandra as the three sisters from Queensland. The leaves of mature plants are about as different looking as any sisters could be but they are more closely related to each other than they are to any other Drosera. And like any three sisters, each has different growing preferences. But they are united in that juvenile plants do have similar leaves and the flowers are similar as well. The tropical Drosera adelae, D. prolifera, and D. schizandra are about as close as you can get to jungle sundews. There are other Drosera that live in tropical regions and overlap the range of these species such as Drosera burmannii, D. indica, D. banksii, and D. spatulata, but they are not restricted to the wet tropical habitats and are definitely not jungle or rainforest plants. Well, actually, there is now a new sister! Recently a fourth "sister" was discovered and it was named Drosera buubugujin. For anyone really interested, I recommend the following video: https:// Here’s some more info to expand on the above: https:// https:// https:// I have added many posts about the conditions and care of various CPs in previous #cpclubthursday so I recommend people follow the hashtag, may of them also have my own group #seymour so may be easier to find there. Commonly referred to as “pings” from their scientific name Pinguicula, this name means “little greasy one” in Latin. It is derived from their broad green leaves that are covered with tiny glandular hairs that secrete sticky mucilage, greasy to the touch. Hey y'all! I've been busy the past few days, so first off happy (late) holidays to everybody 😀 Aside from family stuff, I've been primarily busy with plant stuff. This past Thursday I spent a while dividing 2 of my venus fly traps! Goodness, they had really multiplied in those pots!! I decided to split them up into several tiny venus fly traps instead of leaving bigger clumps so I didn't have to repot them again for a bit. They do look a bit sad at the moment, and that's mainly because they're all pretty dormant at the moment. Majority of them do have larger traps, they just shed them for the winter :) I now have a crazy amount of venus fly traps, but it'll be fun watching them all grow over summer! 😆 I've also managed to keep my Heliamphora Minor alive so far. I made a little mistake with the watering (didn't realize it in fact is not watered like a Nepenthes) but it has recovered since then luckily. Another little update is on my Sarracenia seedling!! It's definitely one of my favorite plants at the moment just because of how absolutely adorable the little baby pitcher is! It's so tiny too!! It's grown a lot since it first sprouted roughly 2 weeks ago. And, my Nepenthes Alata is also growing super well! I don't post my nepenthes often, but they are up there with my fav plants. The pitcher pictured is from my Nepenthes Alata. :) #cpclubthursday #venusflytrap #nepenthes #sarracenia #seedling #pitcherplant #carnivorousclub #carnivorousplants #merranda #happyplants #plantsmakepeoplehappy #plantaddict #newgrowth #seedlings

FEED ME, SEYMOUR PART 2 - THE RECIPE #cpclubthursday So here is my dried CP meal recipe that I use as a way to give my CPs an occasional treat when there is no live prey for them. Recipe Cricket Powder 🦗 Dried Mealworms 🐛 Gelatine 💧 So I grind up the dry mealworms so they are crushed into a powder and mix them with the cricket powder. Then I add some water to make a watery paste. Finally I add gelatine to make it into a watery goo. I make sure there is at least a little water in the pitchers of my Nepenthes or Cephalotus pitchers etc and if they are completely dry, I add a little distilled water but not too much as it will dilute any digestive juices too much and make the task of the CP to digest a lot harder. I make sure the CP meal is liquid enough that I can use a syringe 💉 so I can inject it into the pitchers, onto the traps (making sure I set them off initially and later gently massage them so they are constrict. I use it like a toothpaste tube to add a layer of onto sundew, butterworts (pings) and other sticky leaf varieties of CPs. And then I watch my CPs enjoy the added boost to their diet (like taking a protein shake or multivitamins) Does anyone else have a recipe to share below? Or comments? Criticisms? #HappyPlants #PlantsMakePeopleHappy #PlantAddict #PropagationStation #GrowLights #cpclubthursday #theamigos #Seymour #CarnivorousPlants #CarnivorousClub #VenusFlyTrap #GregGang #PLANTMAFIA #Sarracenia #PitcherPlant #Sundew #cephalotusclub #RarePlant

This past weekend I decided to do some plant related stuff ! :) (If you can't see the photos look at the comments .. I edited the post and they all disappeared for some reason) There was a plant sale down in Tampa, FL and one of the people there was Kenny Coogan. He sells pretty much just carnivorous plants (primarily nepenthes) and is a part of the ICPS (international carnivorous plant society). I saw a Nepenthes × Hookeriana at his table and I couldn't resist getting it. I think it might be my favorite nepenthes that I've got! Seriously, tiny pitchers are so cute 🥹 ! Once I got home, I ran into an issue because I didn't have another small greenhouse and I didn't have enough space in my current one to fit my new nepenthes. So, I decided to turn my leopard geckos old tank (recently upgraded her to a larger tank) into a little greenhouse type thing to hold in humidity. It's working perfectly! I also re-arranged all of my outdoor plants just because I felt like it. I'm loving how they all look right now. You may notice that a lot of my Sarracenia's pitchers have fallen over -- and that's just because we've gotten some super windy and super rainy storms recently. Also, a few of the hybrids I have, have upturned lids which causes rainwater to fill in the pitchers and then that makes the pitchers fall over. I did my best to balance the pitchers on eachother to make it look like they're all upright. Plus, a lot of my younger Sarracenia don't have very strong pitchers yet because they're small still. Happy #cpclubthursday ! #carnivorousplants #carnivorousclub #sarracenia #venusflytrap #nepenthes #pitcherplant #happyplants #plantsmakepeoplehappy #plantaddict #newgrowth #merranda
