It’s Wednesday at #TheWateringHole 🌿🌤️ Good morning everybody, or should I say good day [good evening, and goodnight!] ? After several days of ~95° 🥵 I am so very very grateful to be back down in the 70°s 😮‍💨 My plants, however, thought it was swell! As I was moving around my plants this morning I was thinking about the satisfying little tasks of plant care that are delightful. For me, one of my favorites is plucking off the totally brown and dried-up sheathes of cane begonia leaves. No force necessary, once they are brown and shriveled, I just touch them and they fall off in my hands. And I don’t *have* to do this, as they will fall off eventually by themselves, but it brings me joy. 🥰 Another one is when I water, and the saucer fills up but does not overflow, and later when I go to check all the water was sucked back up and the pot is the perfect “well-watered weight.” Do you have any small plant care tasks or activities that give you satisfaction or delight? Good morning wonderful plant friends. This is my beautiful Crêpe Myrtle. I planted it many years ago. A few years back it was damaged by several hurricanes and it looked like it was dying. Last year it appeared to be almost completely dead. As a result, I took a chainsaw and, sadly, cut it down. Now it’s coming back with a vengeance. I’m very happy. I guess all it needed was a good pruning. #TheWateringHole Good afternoon and Happy Saturday! It was a hellacious week at work, but today I’ve enjoyed tending plants, bird feeders, birdbath, hummingbird feeder, and a good walk around the neighborhood. When I got back from my walk, I snapped a few pics of our outdoor blooms. The flowering pots were bought last Sunday at Walmart and Home Depot so we can’t take any credit for those. God has provided plenty of water so we haven’t had to bother with that. I had to run out to Walmart from work on Monday to pick up something for a patient. I took a swing through the garden center to see if the pothos I had eyed the previous week was still there. I had been suffering from “will power remorse”. It was still there and still the only one of that particular one they had. Meet Albert, my Albo Pothos. Now, I really have to start excercising some will power!! Omg, I had never seen a baby bumblebee (he’s so tiny) before, until this AM, as my cactus flower began its’ ascension. Hello #thewateringhole friends! I was looking for a little humidity dome for my baby Alocasia Jacklyn today, and realized I could turn an old vase over and stick her under there until she grows a bit more. And as you can see, the bottom half of her semi hydro setup is currently a yogurt container- didn’t want to buy a whole setup when she will soon outgrow it. It made me think of other things I’ve repurposed for plants, such as the beautiful ceramic berry strainer for a little orchid I have, and a couple of thrifted bowls and plates I use as saucers, or to hold plants steady on a wire frame shelf. What things have you repurposed, on purpose or because needs- must? Happy Wednesday at #TheWateringHole my lovely plant people 🤍🌿 The last few days have been quite hot, so I am actually so thankful to see that starting tomorrow it looks like we’re due for almost a week of rain 😮‍💨 🙌 I have not done any laundry, or much else around the house because of the heat. 🥵 I have spent some time checking on my cucumeris mites though 🤓 I just love them. It’s supposed to be less than 90°F/32°C today, so today I play catch-up. Luckily for me, my adhd brain takes that as a challenge. 3 days of work in a few hours? Challenge accepted!! For pictures, we’ve got a new tortum leaf, a ridiculously long latifolia vine that I very much need to make a trellis for, some broadmite ICU patients (my poor beauty star 😭 but she’s hanging on! ) and an excellent microscope that attaches to your phone making taking and sharing pictures a piece of cake, and a picture from said microscope. Green circle is my beneficial predatory mite; the N. cucumeris, and red circle is a feeder mite. ⏱️Want to be notified of these posts when they come out? Good Evening to ALL who may come across this post 😊 I have something I NEED to share with you guys 🤯 So on Tuesday, I went out on the front porch to water some plants 🪴 (I don’t go out there often because of the wasp and the heat this time of year) As I’m watering my smaller Bird of Paradise, I notice it’s REALLY leaning towards the stairs which makes it in the way when walking up or down. Therefore I thought why don’t I switch it with my banana tree so it’ll lean more towards the center. I lean over to pick it up and I’m trying to figure out WHY it won’t come out of the concrete pot?! 🤔 Usually the plants come right out, but not this time. So I’m pulling, I’m tugging, I’m wiggling, I’m leaning it every which way and NOTHING! Well FINALLY it lets loose!!! Believe it or NOT, the BOP roots had grown out of the drainage holes in the clay pot and into the cement pot 😳🤯😳 I cannot believe how big, thick, and healthy those roots are! It just blows my mind. I never would have thought that would happen. I mean I could have planted the BOP directly into the cement planter, but that thing is extremely HEAVY. So to make it easier, I just put the clay pot inside the cement pot! Now I have to do a repot 🤯🤯 And last year, I had a bunch of broken stems from my Easter and Thanksgiving Cactus. So I planted all of them in a little throw away container with some peat moss. Now the Thanksgiving Cactus wants to bloom?!? WHAT?? I’m sooo confused, yet sooo excited 😜 Last, but not least is my Lifesaver Cactus. Cantaloupe for Days!! I started these as seeds in May. By the end of May they had to be put in the ground. Hubby built me 2 “Teepees” for all the plants to grow up on, rather than take over the yard lol. Now- I have 28 Melons!!
