ðŸŦ Happy World Chocolate ðŸŦ Day July the 7th , 2024

Apart from the coffee plant, the chocolate plant is probably one of my favorite plants!
So how are you planning to celebrate World Chocolate Day ?ðŸŦ
Do you have a favorite chocolate and why? I like the highest percentage chocolate bars (eg 90-95% cocoa) as it is so bitter no one else wants to pinch it and eat it but instead leave it for me. But I started with 70% cocoa.
I also love hot chocolate (especially cold, wet and windy days like today here in Perth - winter day). I sometimes add spices like cinnamon or even chilli !

Have you noticed how expensive chocolate has becomeha become lately and the reasons for its increase in price ?

Does anyone have a cocoa plant or a chocolate plant eg chocolate mint?

Happy Chocolate Day! 😋 Yum! I am also a dark chocolate fan ðŸŦ. My current favorite is called Tony's Chocolonely Dark Chocolate with Almonds and Sea Salt. 😋 They are pretty large bars, and sell for about $5, but I've seen them as high as $7.

I don't have any "chocolate" plants, but I would be glad to try that chocolate mint! I'm going to have to look for that.
Happy World Chocolate Day!!! Who knew there was a special day to celebrate chocolate? I also love chocolate, but prefer milk chocolate over darkâ€Ķ I guess I really enjoy the sweet creaminess of it so much that I save the bitterness for my coffee! 😉☚ïļ
Where can you get a Coffee Plant?!
@Seymour Lord how did I miss this day & your post!!ðŸŦ  coffee plant, chocolate plant!! Omgâ€Ķ I would say the reason for increase is demand, and fuel prices to ship this!! â˜đïļ love the post and sad I am late on this.. now I need some chocolate to make me feel better! ðŸĪĢ
Did you know that chocolate is the most popular sweet in the world? Humans grow and consume more than 3 million tons of cacao every year!
Chocolate is a food worthy of year-round celebration, especially on World Chocolate Day.
Are you excited to dig into this year’s sweetest celebration? How can brands and social media managers get involved?
Check out this enticing guide to World Chocolate Day.
When is World Chocolate Day?
World Chocolate Day (or International Chocolate Day) falls on July 7 every year. In 2022, World Chocolate Day occurs on Thursday, July 7. On this day, chocolate-lovers around the globe will have the perfect excuse to indulge in sweet goodies.
The history of World Chocolate Day
Although humans have enjoyed chocolate for thousands of years, World Chocolate Day wasn’t invented until 2009. Nobody knows exactly who established World Chocolate Day, but they certainly deserve our thanks.
Historians estimate that chocolate was widely introduced to Europe on July 7, 1550. This introduction symbolizes chocolate’s debut from South America to the rest of the world. Now, World Chocolate Day is celebrated on July 7 every year.
The history of chocolate
What better way to appreciate chocolate than to learn about its origins? Chocolate originated in Latin America, where indigenous people began harvesting and domesticating the cacao (“kakawa”) plant.
Chocolate, as we know it today, is much sweeter now than it was then. People mixed the cacao beans, pulp, and peppers into beverages believed to fortify and strengthen their soldiers. This is the origin of “hot” chocolate, which was actually somewhat bitter and spicy.
Researchers believe that Mesoamerican civilizations cultivated the cacao plant for thousands of years before European explorers arrived in the Americas. Christopher Columbus may have been one of the first Europeans to taste chocolate when he encountered Mayan cacao bean traders. During the early 1550s, more explorers, including Hernan Cortez, brought back cacao beans and ancient recipes.
The Spanish, who had colonized several Caribbean islands, were among the first to add sugar cane to chocolate. This made the bitter food more appealing, and chocolate quickly became a delicacy for the upper classes. Over the next few centuries, chocolate became more affordable and widespread.
In 1868, Cadbury introduced the first mass-produced chocolate candies in England. Cadbury remains a popular chocolate manufacturer still to this day.

I love all kinds of chocolate! My gateway chocolate that got me into exploring different types was Coco Camino's dark mint chocolate - aside from being delicious it has some finely-textured crunchy bits in it that make it fun to eat.

Dark chocolate is my first love but also love milk chocolate. White and blonde are also fantastic when you can find high quality chocolatiers. Anyone tried the newest ruby chocolate?

I live in a smallish city that loves food and there's a fantastic chocolate store that carries the top ranked chocolates from around the world. I feel pretty blessed to know I could try a different chocolate every single day for nearly a year. My neighbourhood even has a local chocolatier! But I do still love the occasional Butterfinger or a Coffee Crisp.
@ballondusoleil You lucky chocolate lover, you! I need to move to your town!!!!!
@UltraKoreanfir I'm willing to bet your area has a chocolatier or at least some local businesses that carry unique and high quality chocolates. Farmers' markets, boutique or high-end grocers and even ethnic food stores might have some fantastic chocolatey offerings. Some of my fave U.S. based chocolatiers are Askinosie, Dandelion Chocolate, Theo Chocolate and Mast Brothers. But if you're ever in my area we could do a chocolate crawl - like a pub crawl but chocolates, lol!
@ballondusoleil 💕 Love that idea! 😂
I live near St. Louis, so plenty of chocolatiers around, but all are at least an hour from me. To have one in my own neighborhood....that would be something! Dangerous, maybe 😋
