Bonsai monstera?

I'm going to order that one succulent necklace that I showed @SvelteKingfern and @HoyaAddict! I was thinking about maybe germinating a monstera seedling in it and letting it grow, and then start cutting off a bunch of the new growth to bonsai it? Do you think that's possible? #happyplants #plantsmakepeoplehappy #monstera
Bonsai is done with woody plants (trees and shrubs) which have very different growth habits from monstera. If you want the leaves to grow closer together, I would suggest placing it under brighter lights, rather than cutting it back. Since they almost always grow from the node just below the last cut, you won’t get a lot of branches from cutting it. (Though, if you propagate the trimmed off end, you can add it back to the pot to get a fuller plant!)

If you’re trying to keep the leaves smaller, then cutting off the plant to make it β€œstart over” producing leaves *will* produce smaller leaves, but they won’t have that gorgeous fenestration that mature leaves have.

I would recommend, rather than trimming a monstera, that you look into a smaller look-alike plant. For example, Rhaphidophora tetrasperma looks like a small monstera, but grows that way naturally.
@ESylvanus Yep! I don't need the fenestrations. Just want to try an experiment with it.
Monstera grow to large and too fast to bonsai. I was able to bonsai some crown of thorns and that worked out great for a low maintenance easy to care for bonsai that gets flowers as a bonus
@SirLiquorice That sounds really cool! My neighbor just gave me a couple of crown of thorns cuttings for Christmas… maybe I’ll try one of them as a project πŸ€”

Did you do any wiring and/or root trimming? Or is it mostly trim and grow?
Doubt it will work only because monstera are vining plants not tree/shrub like. If you want to experiment though for fun I would recommend a monstera Adansonii as they’re already smaller. Just remember with each cut, the plant will use a new node to grow from, if you cut often there will be no nodes left for growth.
I would suggest using Hoya/jade plant/crassula/peperomia/ficus instead as they don’t worry about nodes and can sprout often and bonsai well πŸ’š
