Monstera too tall..

lol my neighbor gave this monstera a bit ago, she’sdoing great! But as she grows I’m just noticing how bare and a bit… unappealing to the eye, as well as unsteady, she really is. And I do not have an oddly narrow and tall pot to place her in. πŸ˜‚

I’m basically just wondering what you would do? - this is my first monstera, I’m just curious, could I chop the whole thing and put it in water?

It’s got this aerial root on the bottom that was damaged but has new growth coming out of it, as well as that newer one on the top. Could those roots alone support it if Iwere to chop the whole bottom off? Or is there another way to do this I’mnot thinking? #PropagationStation #HappyPlants #ADHDPLANTLOVERS #GregGang #Monstera

@Stephazar Hi Stephanie! I have the exact same issue with mine! I really don’t want to chop it up, but all but 2 of the beautiful leaves are on the top! And it is taller than I am! If I chop min, I will really chop it, so that I will have 5-10 new baby monsteras! Just chop it so that you have at least one node per section and propagate those babies! Mine is a Thai Constellation and I am in love with the huge leaves but I don’t know what to do either! I’m just putting it off until I hear something I want to do or the urge just hits me! I wish wish us both good luck!🀣πŸͺ΄πŸŒΊ
@Ponytailmom ahhh I’d be so afraid to do that with a constellation too 🀣
Yeah, I’ll probably chop it into a piece or two, but will the leaves stay happy? They’re kind of resilient like a pothos right? Also I’m going to need a large bucket or something. 🀣
Hopefully somebody responds that will just tell us what to do!! Haha.
@Stephazar #PropagationStation #TheWateringHole can someone help us please! πŸͺ΄πŸŒΊπŸ˜πŸ«ͺ
@Stephazar hello!! monsteras are my fav and i love propogating them.

here are some tips from my success:

1. monsteras love to in tight spaces so you don’t need a bucket! also, group them together, they thrive like that

2. when propogating, give lots of light!

3. change water every 5-7 days, depending on how hard your water is! purified is the best but up to you!

4. after making your cuts, leave them out to dry and callous for at least 1-2 days (depending on thickness, i say 2 just to be safe). if you put them directly into water, they will rot!

5. if you cut a node with an arial/ dirt root, those can grow water roots, just make sure you wash them COMPLETELY of dirt or else it will rot!

pothos and monsteras are my fav to propogate, i’ve screenshotted your photo and shows where to cut :) if you’d like to leave the bottom of the plant, that will grow leaves as well, giving it kind of a bonsai look, but i feel like that’s what you want to redo haha.

once your cutting have roots, you should be able to plant the into a pot, giving it a bushier look!

good luck and #happyplanting
This is why I leave multiple monstera copotted in the same pot, I want to keep mine smaller and fuller. Because you already have a medium-large plant in there, you could either add a smaller monstera or two into the pot or add a complementary vining plant to it (meaning one that will grow together with it happily instead of the two plants trying to kill one another), like a pothos. The alternative would be chop it up, root the cuttings, and copot them, but that carries the risk of some or all of the chopped cuttings dying.
