Monstera?

Hello, the aerial root of my monstera has blackened in less than two hours, what should I do #monstera #plantaddict
20” pot without drainage
Last watered 2 years ago
@apprenticjulian in my opinion I would cut it off where the blackened part has started because it’s started to rotten. Use sterilized pruners or scissors to cut it back. That’s what I did one one of mine. Just pay attention to the root for awhile after you cut it back to but sure it’s ok.
Most of these roots will turn black just because they are stabilizers. Most of mine look black but if they aren’t soft and mushy, then I let them be. I’ve seen new aerial offshoots from these darker ones come off the end as new ones. I can’t say exactly why they do this but it happens. Others stay light in color but I like to think they do this as a protective measure or a redirection of resources until they can get back to what they were doing with this side of things. If it’s not soft and mushy, keep an eye and hand on it. Your humidity may be high in the room and that helps it darken. If it’s soft and mushy, snip it off about an inch over that black part and watch your watering.
Thanks @KikiGoldblatt and @FitSedum i am cut de black rotten πŸ‘
