Say hello to my little friend -TDS
I found another very useful plant friend some time ago - it's a TDS meter (total dissolved solids) and it is mainly used to detect minerals in water.
But you can get also sorts of devices with TDS measuring function.
The one I am going to focus on is a Bluetooth device that also measures pH (very handy) and other other useful information (eg temp) and can record the measurements in real time to an app to save.

I am sorry, but the only thought I had when reading, was whether the TDS meter is measuring in Stewarts or Noahs. So much so, that I was unable to read the rest of the - probably very interesting and informative - text. Will come back to it, when my mind is more stable and sane, so maybe in a week or so.

Only now saw that you are dangling best answer in front of commenters' noses. That was not even why I pasted, but thanks 😅 Am really just having an "unhinged-brain-day" and read the first paragraph, could not shake the association, and gave up continuing to read 😀 Ijust took another look and think a TDS meter is too much for my plant needs right now. At least for my kind of plants. Have bought a soil ph testing kit several weeks ago and have not used it once till now.

@MusicalRedmint Good further comment, Sussan, it is really only useful when it comes to testing water, not soil. And if you are not in the right "headspace" or have no need, why waste you money on one. I may have missed the association you mentioned but why further burden your "unhinged-brain-day".

@Seymour I aspire to your meme game—you take it to 11! And I actually am very interested in getting a TDS meter now. For one thing, Chompy’s been guzzling tap water for months and I need to figure out what’s going on with his soil. Also, given the number of plants that have followed me home, I need to start paying better attention to them. My orchids are looking rough, like they’ve seen things. 👀
Have a look at Part 2 and the Zero Water jug as you get a TDS meter with the jug as a bonus! It could be worth the investment, ask @snowtrooper as he has a Zero Water jug and also happens to not only live in the same country (unlike me) but even the same state of Oregon. So he can maybe even give you a better idea if the water is the same in your state. It's better advice than I can't give, as it may also dictate how long the filters last for Oregon residents. Anyway, the link is in Part 2 and there are different jugs sizes so I might now add a link to Zero Water jugs there too.

@LaSiguanaba it's a 7 functions in one device but there is also 5:1 and 3:1, etc. And it has Bluetooth so more expensive again. But it seems to work well for me 😀🚿

Am important point to add, make sure any TDS meter comes with buffer solution to properly calibrate it! This one does (Almost forgot)
