Hi all, so this Ponytail is about 7 years old. He’s been in this 19” pot for almost 3 years. He’s outdoors except for winter. Hes 47” tall. I’m wondering if it’s time to repot. The ends are so long I run them over with the dolly it’s sitting on, and the soil has shrunk about 2 inches. This guy weighs a ton and it took 2 of us to repot it 3 yrs ago. @SillyPlantGirl Hi Catherine- if it has been in the same pot for 3 years, I would probably repot it. I repot my big ones that are this size every 3-4 years. I am sure he would appreciate new soil no matter if u use the same pot or not. Like @Boymom-plantmom Jennifer said, lean him over and slide him out of that pot and see what the root ball looks like. They don’t have a massive root ball naturally, so maybe you could just give home some fresh soil and put him back in the same pot of he’s not out growing it 🪴🌺🌼🌸🌻 IT IS BEAUTIFUL!

You can root prune and add some fresh soil mix in the bottom of the pot. Also pull some soil off the top edge and fill back with soil. Just don't raise soil level over the caudex and adjust watering schedule to allow for the new soil which will probably hold more water.

@pippi hi Melissa- there’s a few things I use. First is Worm Castings. Then I use an Organic Lobster Compost, and then I use liquid Sea Kelp. I get all of it on Amazon - and can be a bit costly - the worm casting I get looks like soil $25, the Lobster I mix with cactus/succulent soil (1/2 and 1/2). The Lobster is around $27 for a big bag. The Sea Kelp I think was $20-15…I can’t remember. The Kelp is actually really good if you propagate- the roots that grew from my Swiss Cheese vine was insane!
