I was given this GIGANTIC plant today. Her name is Ida Mae. I thought she was a money tree, but upon further research I am leaning more towards her being an umbrella tree. Anybody know for sure? She's huge, almost as tall as I am and I'm 5'8". I repotted her in a peat/perlite/sand/compost mix in a wooden barrel pot with drainage, then gave her a good drink. I did put a small grow light on her to supplement light as she is about 3 feet from a North facing window.
Anyway. I'm totally stoked to have her, she gives my sewing shed such character and amazing energy. πΏ

EDIT - please read down first! Lol π my blurry morning eyes cocked this one right up! π€¦ββοΈπ€£π€¦ββοΈ
It defintely looks kinda like a Schefflera!
Dwarf umbrellas CAN easily reach 2 metres in height if you let them, so she's obviously be given just the best growing conditions by your friend! She's stunning! Xxx

@JenniB81 You really think so? I just donβt see it!!
Lol maybe it's just a terminology thing Jenn? @hislobster) (The old UK/ US divide? Hahaha π€£).
For example, I've found that there's a million different plants that get called money trees or money plants! It just depends where you are as to what plant you mean lol (which is why I tend to resort to using the species names instead to aid confusion... I hope! π€¦ββοΈπ€£π€£)
This is my little Schefflera arboricola Charlotte... I think you can see the leaf shape easier when they're smaller! Once they get as big as Jess's those enormous leaves are hard to define π€£
You're so lucky jess @JesssJungle!! She's a monster!.ππ Xxx

@JenniB81 All my Scheffleras look like yours, Jenni! Well, minus the beautiful variegation of yours. π€ Regardless of what she has, I agree; @JesssJungle Jess, you are one lucky plant momma! Man, Ida Mae is flippinβ gorgeous!!
Hmm... You've got me wondering now honey!!
I think you're right! π€¦ββοΈ Sorry @JesssJungle (I have no excuse except it's only 5.40 in Edinburgh hahaha π€£)
Schefflera and Pachira do look similar, but the latter have those longer leaf stems and broader leaves relative to each other... Jenn's totally got this one! @hislobster) π₯³ππ₯°
It is a Pachira Aquatica (sorry π€¦ββοΈπ€£π€£) xxx

@JesssJungle I have no idea π€· what kind of plant is it but I also didnβt realize you were so tall Jess and it seems Ida Mae has already outgrown you so watch this space, I guess π€©ππ€πππ

Thank you, everyone! I have switched my decision back to it being a money tree! The leaf shape seems more accurate & I have a few dwarf umbrella trees and they are pretty different, though they are muuuuch smaller.
My mom's friend gave this gal to me, she didn't have room for her anymore. Who could blame her?! She just asked that I give her a cutting, so once she gets settled in, I'll be doing that! π

@JenniB81 @JesssJungle Hahaha! This thread makes me giggle! π€ At least we all agree on the how stunning this tree is. ππ«Άπ»
