#thewateringhole First huckleberries of the season! ๐Ÿ˜‹

We didnโ€™t find a SUPER great patch of them, but good enough to leave with about half a gallon ๐Ÿ’œ

Weโ€™re also getting lots of raspberries in our little backyard berry patch โค๏ธ We never have enough at one time to make anything because we just pick and eat them as soon as theyโ€™re ripe ๐Ÿ˜‚

What are you all picking and eating out of your gardens/markets these days? โ˜€๏ธ
#debbiedo
@debbiedo Your berry harvest looks good enough to eat!๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿ˜‚ Excuse my ignorance, but are Huckleberries the same as Blueberries??๐Ÿซ Raspberries areny personal favorites!
@debbiedo Those look good! What do you plan to do with the huckleberries? When I was growing up someone invited my mother to pick huckleberries on their property. She loaded up me, my brothers, and 2 of my cousins in the back of my uncleโ€™s pickup. While we were picking the huckleberries, Mom spotted some blackberry bushes with ripe berries. She drafted me to help her pick the blackberries. Guess which 2 people got red bugs. It was the absolute worst case of red bugs I ever had. That is my memory of huckleberries!!
@Ms.Persnickety Theyโ€™re sometimes called โ€œMountain Blueberriesโ€ I believe. As far as I know, they arenโ€™t produced commercially. Theyโ€™re smaller and more purple than blue, and super yummy!
@RefinedSandwort Oh no! What a horrible memory to associate with huckleberries ๐Ÿ˜ข It sounds like the blackberries were at fault to me! ๐Ÿ˜‰
Wow! Debbie, thatโ€™s amazing; they look gorgeous and delicious ๐Ÿ˜‹๐Ÿคค
@Idplantthat Thank you. Rachel! Hopefully there are many more to come this summer ๐Ÿคž๐Ÿป
@debbiedo it looks like they are off to a great start! How are your tomatoes?๐Ÿ… Did the tomato tower work??
Looks delicious!
@EcoPlantLover @RefinedSandwort We freeze them and use them on yogurt, in pancakes, in fruit crispsโ€ฆ๐Ÿ˜‹๐Ÿ˜‹๐Ÿ˜‹
@RefinedSandwort I should also mention that we always spray ourselves with bug repellent before we pick (mosquitoes are more common for us, but OMG I do NOT want to deal with chiggers!)
@Idplantthat Thanks for remembering Rachel! โค๏ธ๐Ÿ…โค๏ธ

So far so good with the tomato tower ๐Ÿคž๐Ÿป No ripe tomatoes yet, but lots on their way!
@debbiedo in todayโ€™s world, with Lyme disease, etc. we would probably use insect repellent. Fifty or more years ago, we might have bought some for a camping trip. We had picked blackberries many times without that happening, so we didnโ€™t even think about it. Those little critters got everywhere you could imagine! Probably why I remember it all these years later. Whether you call them chiggers or red bugs, they can be a bad ending to an outing!
@debbiedo DEBBIE! ๐Ÿคฏ They look gorgeous and so happy and healthy. They are most definitely well on their way. Youโ€™re going to have so many tomatoes this year! Are you planning on canning or freezing them? I donโ€™t think Iโ€™ve done canning in almost 20 years, but I really should. ๐Ÿคฃ I love seeing everyoneโ€™s gardens; mine is really struggling this year, itโ€™s been a real struggle for some reason. Iโ€™m blaming Mother Nature ๐ŸŒฌ๏ธ so hopefully she doesnโ€™t get too upset Iโ€™m saying it, but really itโ€™s just a weird growing year for us. But you all seem to have some great weather going on up on the coast. OH!! Before I forget; your Vicks is ready! My mum and one of her childhood friends are going to Seattle to visit her sister. I was thinking of having her just take it, but I thought hmm; ๐Ÿคจ maybe not? So I probably just ship it here soon. Remind me; do you like alocasias? Or more just like a Hoya or philodendron? Inch plant? Anything like that? Pineapple? I have so many little extras Iโ€™d love to send you more than just a Vicks and a tri Cuban oregano. ๐Ÿคฃ
@Idplantthat Our weather is just getting hot now, so ๐Ÿคž๐Ÿป everything will keep growing!

Is your mom driving to Seattle with her friend? If so, she might be coming through my town and Iโ€™d be glad to meet up with her!

Iโ€™m just overwhelmed by your generosity ๐Ÿฅน

I think I have room for an Alocasia in my kitchen window (Iโ€™m inspired by your โ€œkitchen Alocasiaโ€ โค๏ธ). And I always have room for more Hoyas or Tradescantia ๐Ÿค—
Def strawberries loove ๐Ÿ“๐Ÿ˜, hopefully cucumbers, tomatoes, melon, and peppers ๐ŸŒถ๏ธ . Mint and watermelon ๐Ÿ‰ would be nice but watermelon is big and I heard harder to grow than other melons. Rn I have a balcony so Iโ€™m more limited.
Back when I had a garden when I was younger and lived in a house, Iโ€™d say cucumbers, lettuce, carrots, eggplant, mint (I used to make these cold water with mint watermelon and cucumber drinks) , one pepper, weird lookin potatoes lol, and probably more but it was like a decade ago omg ๐Ÿ˜ฑ.

I always grow strawberries ๐Ÿ˜‹ but I have never tried berries from trees before. I and you got so much off it! @debbiedo
@RefinedSandwort Itโ€™s about the only time I use bug spray, but SO worth it!
@SageSolidGoldd That sounds like a great balcony garden! ๐Ÿ˜ฎ๐Ÿชดโ˜€๏ธ
@debbiedo I hope so! Love when the plants take over and it feels like a rain forest. Last year I had soo many non-food plants that my living room was packed ๐Ÿ˜‚
