#TheWateringHole Happy Monday to everyone at the #TheWateringHole! Hope everyone had a nice weekend with their plant oasis! We’re getting a lot of rain here, which we desperately needed. I managed to avoid having to water the outdoor flowers. Speaking of outdoor flowers, I snapped a few pics of our hosta blooms and one of our outdoor planters yesterday afternoon, but never got around to posting. The last picture is my new baby pitcher plant my stepdaughter had shipped to me. She let my hubby know she was sending a plant, but didn’t let me know what it was, so it was a #PlantMail surprise! Now I just have to study up on how to keep it alive. It’s sitting out on my front porch for now. Any tips appreciated!

@RefinedSandwort Hi Joy! Your plants are pretty. I love the hosta. I recently got bold and chopped and propped my ficus tineke since it was so tall and the bottom leaves were browning. I'm happy to report success with growth on the mothe plant (3 new branches starting) as well as roots growing on the propped section. I love it when a plan goes right! Have a good night!

@RefinedSandwort oh wow, your home looks like a paradise with all those trees 🌲 🌳😱 It makes me want to have a seat in one of those Adirondack chairs and enjoy those hosta blooms!! 🤗
I don’t know much about pitcher plants, but an expert told me to use 50% peat (I think coir could work too) and 50% perlite and then top it with live sphagnum moss which is a good indicator for when it’s time to water. Never use tap! Only distilled or rainwater if I recall correctly. If you have enough humidity outdoors they can do well, or you can put in a terrarium if it’s very dry.
I got a dream wish list plant today. It’s been on that list for a year, and I finally took the plunge! A variegated Hoya wayetti. I gasped when I saw it in person. I repotted it, and glad I did because there was a bit of root rot, but still had plenty of good roots. I’m in love 🥰 Now she’s in a ziplock bag with a Petri dish of my predatory mites, to make sure I have no unwelcome visitors!

@DreamMachine She was 29" tall and wouldn't fit under her growth light well anymore. I split the difference and cut at 14.5 inches. Hoping I can get the main plant to bush out rather than growing straight up.
@GracedStrapwort 🤞 for you! Are you planning on repotting the top section back in the pot at a later date or starting a new pot?
@DreamMachine Yes, the micans calathea is a miniature. Name listed on the tag is Meehans Micans Calathea. She's enjoying my plant cupboard with the other two who are doing very well. Pic below. I'm not sure if I will combine the propped tineke back with the mother plant...now you've got me thinking. I guess it depends on how the new branches grow out. 🤔 We will see.

And yes, I was wondering the same thing for my tineke…whether or not to start a new plant or pop it back in the original pot? 🤔 But then, I also may try my hand at trying to encourage a branch by notching instead of chopping. Have you ever done that? You make a notch-like cut somewhere on the trunk, and it can supposedly branch out from that notch. I only tried it once on my baby rubber tree, but I made the notch too big, and did a chop by accident 🤣

I’ve never had a pitcher plant so I’ll be curious to see what care it requires & how you get along with it. A new plant adventure 🙌😊

@MariansOasis thank you! That is my favorite place to spend time at home. I’ve got to read up on the pitcher plant. It’s on the front porch for now while humidity is high.
@RefinedSandwort Hi! Wow, your plants are lucky for rain! I’m glad. Here, I have 100 to 110 degree weather. I’m sure my flowers can tell… I’ve been watering them enough, though! Could I be added to the tags for #TheWateringHole?
@DreamMachine Yes, I chopped and propped the top 14". Then I notched the trunk of the bottom 14" in 5 places. So far, 3 areas show growth...with maybe a 4th starting. The woody Trunk notch does not look promising, but all other notches were made with some green showing on the area.

@DreamMachine @princesspitstop I was at work and coudn’t think of who all I needed to tag at the time. By the time I get around to starting a post again, I usually just go to the most recent one with tags and copy and paste!
@RefinedSandwort 🥰👍 My goofy phone won't let me cut and paste directly from a post so I have to keep a running list in my notes app that I can cut and paste from. I'm not sure if it's my phone or the app 🤷♀️ however it works I guess right? Lol
