What’s gone wrong with my silver sword philodendron? I’ve had this plant for about eight months now. Originally, she was doing so, so well. I did very little, and she thrived. My photos below show how she looked when healthy, and how she’s recently declined.

Broken stem! I was repotting Sterling (a rehab plant I bought from Facebook marketplace) and using a cococoir pole for the first time. He hadn’t had anything to grab in his original pot so I was trying to gently wrap him when I heard a snap! His stem broke partially in half! Chat GPT said it can heal from this by callousing over so I taped it together to keep the break from getting worse and wrapped it with plant Velcro to keep it against the pole. Are those… what I think they are! Ok so I was on a call when I noticed THIS. I got off the call and took a look. So I said to myself as the planty person I am, those can’t be Areal roots, they usually don’t grow inside there. Then, I knew what they were. They were auxiliary roots! I think my plant is flowering! Just to make sure here’s a photo. Am I right?

Has proven very hardy, even with lots of moving around. Acts really well as a sentinel plant to let you know if you’ve been neglecting your plant family. Nice silver/grey tone to the leaves adds visual variety among other bright green indoor jungle plants

pictures of the silver sword philo do not give it justice; in person it’s these beautiful metallic and blueish tinted leaves that literally make me so happy!!! this guy is super easy to care for and is a must when beginning to get into more ‘uncommon’ plants !

Very beautiful, big leaves. Grows very quickly, especially when it’s little. Easy to care for and not labour intensive.
Only downside, not really a downside, just a note really. Leaves brown very easily. Bruised leaves will brown quite quickly, and they are delicate so they tend to bruise easily.
