Mulberry Fig
About Mulberry Fig
Did you know that all plants in the Ficus genus produce figs? In fact, the word Ficus quite literally means figs! Even cooler, all figs are pollinated by tiny wasps that use the fruits as a safe place to raise their young. 🐝 Ficus plants also contain latex which emerges as a milky sap when twigs are broken. This latex makes them toxic, so be sure to keep a close eye out if you have children or pets!
Taxonomy
Ficus sycomorus
Ficus
Moraceae
Rosales
Also known as
pharoah fig, sycamore fig, sycomore and sycamore ficus

How to fertilize Mulberry Fig

Most potting soils come with ample nutrients which plants use to produce new growth.
By the time your plant has depleted the nutrients in its soil it’s likely grown enough to need a larger pot anyway.
To replenish this plant's nutrients, repot your Mulberry Fig after it doubles in size or once a year—whichever comes first.

Why are my fiddle leaf fig’s new leaves small? I got a fiddle leaf fig in February of 2024 and repotted it in a 12 inch pot in March 2024. This spring and summer, it’s been growing lots of new leaves which are dark green and close together but they are smaller than the older leaves. I have been fertilizing it regularly since spring. I had underwatered it a bit in the winter but it is comfortably watered now. It is in a south east corner room with lots of bright light, particularly in the morning but it is a bit removed from the windows and, in the summer, it does not get direct light as the direct rays dont reach that far. (In the winter, it does get direct light as the sun is lower in the sky.) I thought maybe it didnt have enough light so I bought a growlight a few days ago. But then I read that being root bound can also cause small leaves. Its roots are visibly circling the surface of the pot but, if you look inside the pot, there aren’t a lot of large roots showing and the roots arent growing out the drainage holes. The soil is visibly pulling away from the pot. Does it need to be repotted? Does it need the growlight? Both? Why are the new leaves smaller?

Browning around the veins I came back from vacation to find my Fiddle Leaf Fig with browning at the veins on several leaves. The top leaves look ok. These are mid-way down the trunk. I recently cut back on watering leaving the top inch to dry out before watering to avoid root rot. This is a sunny location but it doesn’t look like sunburn according to my internet searching. Any ideas as to what is wrong? Thanks for any help you can give #FiddleLeafFig

What’s going on with my Fiddle Leaf Fig My Fiddle Leaf Fig is in front of my South facing window. It’s shooting off new growth like crazy. All the leaves look great but these two new leaves are spotted with reddish/brown markings. Last night the smaller of the two leaves was perfectly green and this morning it’s spotted. I watered it last week (bottom watering) and it’s not ready for another watering. What’s going on with these two leaves? Is it normal? I took a few pictures so you could seecoud see the health of the plant. #FiddleLeafFig #GregGang

Has anyone ever use castor oil either deluded to spray on the plant leaves or to clean the leaves with or diluted and added to the soil for nutrition for the roots? I think. Figgerz needs a little shine up. What do ya’ll use on your FLF’s?

Can I save this plant? I’m scared we fried it by exposing it to too much sunlight because all the leaves fell off…. The stalks don’t feel too dry and brittle now, they are green and relatively bendy but how should I encourage it to grow more leaves? #Ficus
