About Mother of Thousands
Plants in the Kalanchoe genus are native to Madagascar and tropical Africa. They range from rubbery green leaves, to leopard print, and some are even fuzzy! The word Kalanchoe comes from the Cantonese name for these plants, pronounced Ka-lun-koh-ee in English. Their succulent leaves help store water during droughts, so they'll be just fine if you skip a watering or two (it happens!).
Taxonomy

How to fertilize Mother of Thousands
Most potting soils come with ample nutrients which plants use to produce new growth.
By the time your plant has depleted the nutrients in its soil it’s likely grown enough to need a larger pot anyway.
To replenish this plant's nutrients, repot your Mother of Thousands after it doubles in size or once a year—whichever comes first.

I’m fairly new to this, and I’ve recently noticed the leaves at the bottom seem really droopy. Is that normal or is there something wrong? Do I need to repot? I love my little plant and want her to keep growing 🥲 #Kalanchoe

Hi! Is this mother of thousands or mother of millions? There’s different info out there

Typical for MOT? When a leaf loses all its babies, I find that it tends to dry up and fall off. I've been caring for this about 4 years (it's the friendship bread of plants!) and just wonder if others have found this to be true. #Kalanchoe

It never dies, no matter how much i neglect it or leave it in the sunlight and it just keeps growing and growing! i grew mine from a propagation given to me by a friend and new sprouts keep springing up in the soil. it’s a great plant, and my cats are generally not interested in eating it, which is good!

It’s easy to care for, there have been many time while learning how to care for plants that my plant has looked pretty sad and on the brink of dying and has come back strong again.
My little plant ~4” tall produces 50+ little seedlings so it propagates incredibly easily, hence the nickname “mother of thousands”.
Lastly, I found out it’s very poisonous if ingested after having it for over a year so be careful with kids and pets. I read that it can be lethal even if ingested by adults so be careful with all of the seedlings falling off.

I was on a trip in Arkansas back in March working with a foster care camp in the mountains. While doing yard work I came across bushels of this plant locals called “Live Forevers.” They we’re being torn out and discarded, apparently more of a nuisance for flowerbeds, but I liked the way they looked and brought two propagates back with me as a way to reflect on working with those in foster care. I was surprised they survived close to five days of traveling before I was able to get them properly potted.
They have grown slowly for me, but nevertheless new growth is happening almost every week now! If you are looking for a unique, low-maintenance survivor, I recommend!
