About Calathea Vittata
Many of the houseplants we used to know as Calatheas now belong to the genus Goeppertia (say that three times fast). These plants have delightfully patterned leaves that come in all sorts of colors and shapes! Commonly known as prayer plants, the leaves of some species fold up at night through a process called nyctinasty meaning night movement! š“

Never give up! Never surrender! #notdeadyet #NewGrowth #itsabouttime #greggang My brother gave me this vittata along with a musaica and never never ctenanthe last December. The ctenanthe has been fine, and the musaica eventually put on loads of new growth when spring rolled around. This one did nothing. Itās been frustrating because I knew it had good roots, but it would not give me any new growth and the original leaves were starting to die completely. I was on the verge of throwing it out, but took it out to the enclosed back porch before we left on a 4 day trip. Apparently, it wanted to be warmer? Not one, but two new shoots! I had literally picked it up to throw it away when I spotted them! The house is usually around 70F, but it would have been probably close to 90F on the back porch. So now I wonder, should I just leave it on the back porch where it will be ungodly hot and humid all summer (central Indianaāthe corn sweat is real) or move it back inside until fall? #happyplants #calathea

Trying to figure out the schedule #CalatheaVittata I donāt have much sunlight being that my windows are both and south. Plus I was unsure of the exact watering schedule. Does anyone have suggestions on how to get this boy back to health?
-
Dying after trying to adjust its schedule. I have been trying to get this plant to the proper schedule. At first it started to get brown tips, so I thought it was too much sun, but then I brought it away from the window and that made it start to look bad as well. Then I thought it was under watering because it began to droop. So I started watering more. But now Iām confused, anyone have any suggestions? Do I need to repot it and try to just reset?

What type of Calathea? This was identified as a pinstripe Calathea. However, the leaves are not burgundy underneath and the stripes arenāt pink.

Pinstripe Calathea Crispy Brown Leaf Tips i was hoping to rescue this guy from the garden section; all of his leaves had dry, brown ends the day i got him. he's living near a humidifier now, and i've only been able to water him a few times in the 2.5 months he's lived here because his soil seems to be damp constantly... but the brown ends have only gotten worse. any advice for how to better tend to my boy? thanks in advance folks n.n š #pinstripeplant #pinstripecalathea #browntips #plantsmakepeoplehappy #plantparent

James Dean has been a bit of a struggle for me, but is putting out THREE new leaves at the moment. 1 unfurling, 2 is rolled, and 3 is just peeking out. It will get better and be handsome once again. I have faith. #happyplants #rehabplants #ultrakoreanfir

I'm pleased with my Calathea Ornata (happy dance šŖ©). It has been struggling and unresponsive at best. Today I noticed a brand new leaf and a new baby. And my Starfish Sansevieria is pushing out its first new point since I adopted it (3 or 4 months ago). And the pillow crinkle foot plant has the first new leaves since I got it...what a weird looking plant. Just about everyone in the Oasis is doing well right now (knock on šŖµ). #happyplants #plantsmakepeoplehappy #calatheastubbornata #pillowfeetcrinkleleafplant #sansevieriastarfish #greggang

This Calathea just hasn't been waking up. I pulled it out to add some more regular soil to her mixture because I think perhaps I had it draining TOO quickly. It had a fabric plug wrap around the roots that was not bio-degrading. I tore it off. Hopefully, the plant can now "breathe" and will respond appropriately. I got it on June 24th, and it's only grown ONE new leaf. The roots didn't look bad, and it had a nice looking "tap". Keeping my fingers crossedš¤

What is this ring around the plant in the soil? There are also some fuzzies in the soil but I don't see anything crawling on the plant itself.

My poor Linda is becoming brittle and has brown tips :( what can the cause of this be? Does she need more light maybe? #CalatheaVittata
