About Alocasia gagaena 'California'
Alocasias, commonly known as Elephant Ears, are some of the most common houseplants although their leaves can reach enormous sizes when grown outdoors! š They typically only support a few leaves at a time (more, when they get more sun!) so don't be concerned if you see an old leaf begin to retire after a new one emerges. They grow out of underground corms which are similar to bulbs, so next time you repot keep an eye out for baby Alocasias! They contain calcium oxalate crystals so be sure to keep them out of reach if you have children or pets! ā ļø

Babies This plant looks like it's trying to grow some little ones. Should I leave them as is or should I propagate them? And what's some good advice for propagation?

#happyplants How should I take into account that I have grow lights? If the plant requires bright indirect light, should the plant be just outside of the light?

My regal shield is putting out a leaf a month for the past 3 months. This has to be the largest yet. I canāt wait to see what it looks like. What is the biggest leaf you have if you own this plant? I will have to move it soon because itās a light hog. š #AlocasiaAddicts #RegalShields #brunchataudreys

What should I do? Iāve had this plant since august and sheās been thriving but with her new, heavy leaves sheās favored one side of the pot over the other. it looks uncomfortable and Iām wondering if I should repot so that sheās propped up and more straight. Iām relatively new to plants and donāt replant very often so Iām nervous about messing it up!

OMG! My dragon scale Alocasia corms are finally growing! I thought they were rotting for the longest time but thereās new growth and new roots! Check it outtttttt!!!!! Iām so excited for these babies to grow big and strong! This makes me so happy because as some of you may know, my original mother plant got rot after I was in the hospital for a month and had a plant sitter who didnāt know what they were doing. Not their fault! I appreciate the help that I got from them! But unfortunately my Alocasia did get rot. Hasnāt really bounced back since and Iām pretty sure Iām going to lose Da Vinci. But! Now I have his babies! Eeeeeeeee! #HappyPlants #PlantsMakePeopleHappy #PlantAddict #NewGrowth #PropagationStation #PlantTherapy #GrowLights #BeforeAndAfter #PlantLove #TropicalPlants #RootRot #
