Hello, I have a carnivorous plant terrarium with a Venus fly trap, a sundew, and a newly added sweet pitcher plant. I recently added the pitcher plant to the terrarium and it looks like the pitchers are drying up. I can’t figure out if it’s due to the humidity, the lighting, or the water. Context: The terrarium is fully closed, with ventilation at the top. I put a layer of pebbles on the bottom of the terrarium, followed by a layer of perlite and spaghnum moss. I have two grow lights attached to the top of the terrarium that are on around 8 hours a day on the dimmest setting. These grow lights don’t create any heat. I also have a grow light behind the terrarium that shines through the back glass. This one creates heat. I monitor the heat and have this grow light shut off when it reaches a temp of 85 F in the terrarium. I only use distilled water with these plants and mist them several times throughout the day. Repotting #PurplePitcherplant I think it’s time to repot my guy since he has a root growing several inches down into his water reservoir. What are the rules of thumb for repotting sarracenia? How much does pot size matter? I was thinking a shallow pot that would then have a high-ish perched water table would be good, but the only one I currently have is much, much bigger than his current little 3-inch. I have no idea what kind of substrate I even need. Help? Could he share a pot with pings?

Sarracenia crown turning grey and has white growths Hi everyone! I’ve just returned from holiday to find that my Sarracenia leucophylla’s crown has started turning grey and a white fuzzy growth has appeared. Bubbles have also formed around the base of the pot. The plant has two crowns, the larger is the one which is affected, the smaller looks healthy and is throwing up new growth. New pitcher!! My plant just opened up a new pitcher, it’s the biggest one she’s put out so far!! With the lighting you can see the hairs on the lid with the naked eye, very cool! What a very large girl, I’ve been watching this one grow it for a while and am so excited to so it finally open!

Rotting pitchers in Sarracenia maroon? Hi everyone! I purchased an S. maroon from a garden centre last Wednesday, it wasn’t in the greatest condition but there was new growth coming and it was the healthiest of what was available. I gave it the same treatment as the rest of my sarracenia (left in a tray of distilled water) but also quarantined it in the bathroom incase it was diseased. A week later and the new growth has rotted from the base up. Whilst the rest of the pitchers has gone brown and crispy at the garden centre, the new growth had gone soft and dark brown at the base. Is this rot and is this salvageable? I’ve never had this happen to a carnivore before. (Attached image is today, I forgot to take a picture before removing the rotted pitchers. Pest identification?! Sorry for the bad pictures…plant has recently moved to porch. I noticed these tiny guys a few days ago, and when I sprayed w/ natural pesticide, a green bug (not pictured) came out, same shade of green as the plant. Looked sorta like it had wings?? I need advice - if these ARE a pest, I have to get rid of it asap because I have a pet reptile and getting an infestation would be harmful to her health.
