About Raven ZZ Plant

The black raven is a striking cultivar of the popular ZZ plant. ZZ plants have survived 42 million years of plant pathogens, pests, and climate change. Their resilience and ability to tolerate water stress and low light has elevated them to international horticultural importance! Out of 15 plants tested, the ZZ plant was the best at absorbing and removing out of the air a major component found in gasoline. ā›½ļø

Raven ZZ Plant is not safe to consume. If you, a family member, or a pet has ingested any amount of plant material contact Poison Control, US (800) 222-1222, or your veterinarian. If you have children, cats, or dogs in the home, we suggest keeping this plant out of reach.

🪓 Soil

Raven ZZ Plant is very sensitive to wet soil, so choose a potting soil that drains very well and doesn’t retain too much moisture. A good soil will have lots of perlite or vermiculite for drainage and some organic matter for nutrition. A few handfuls of perlite added to regular store-bought cactus soil will do the trick!

šŸ’© Fertilizer

🧐 Troubleshooting

When troubleshooting a sad-looking houseplant, start by checking for signs of distress in its leaves, such as yellowing, browning, or drooping, which can indicate overwatering or nutrient deficiencies.

Inspect the soil moisture; too dry or too wet soil can cause problems.

Ensure the plant is getting the right amount of light, as too much or too little can stress it.

Finally, consider environmental factors like temperature and humidity, and adjust care routines accordingly to revive your plant.

šŸ˜– Common Issues

Overwatering is a likely cause of issues with Raven ZZ Plant. These plants are very sensitive to wet soil so if you notice your plant becoming squishy or translucent, overwatering is the likely culprit.

Cut your plant just past where the rot ends and allow it to callus over for a few days before replanting it in fresh, dry soil. Download Greg to make sure your plant never gets overwatered again!

I love ZZ plants but I was expecting more from this Raven ZZ. She has been a super slow grower for me. No new sprouts but I am glad that she hasn’t had any issues. I just wish she would grow faster for me.

This plant is so easy to care for! I keep it about 6ā€ from grow lights and have about an inch deeps worth of spagnum moss covering the soil to give it a little more moisture. It does well with higher humidity but also does well in normal humidity

Sooooo easy. Almost too easy - I had it for several months (literally! 3 or 4 months) when I realized I’d never put it in Greg and possibly never watered it. It had one stem that had died but the rest is perfectly fine.

Zamioculcas Zamiifolia is my all time favorite plant (besides Aroids!) whether it’s the beautiful ā€œGothā€ Raven or just plain old green. It’s an EXTREMELY SLOW grower which makes it more exciting to see new growth. So if you’re not the patient type I’d skip over it.
Although difficult to kill it can EASILY be killed by overwatering. I’ve purchased the Raven 3x before finally realizing it needed replanting after purchase. I highly recommend if you purchase this plant in a Nursery pot with Peat that you replant it ASAP & wait at least a week to water. Both my green ZZ & Raven are doing amazing in terracotta pots with succulent soil. Both are in North facing windows & are watered once every 3-4wks.
