Pink Quill Pups
My Pink Quill has finished flowering (the flower picture is from several weeks ago), and I've been watching for pups to start forming. I expected them to be around the outside of the plant like many other plants, but it looks like they are growing in the middle. Is this normal? Are these pups or something else? As they grow, do I need to transplant them or just prune the mother plant back as it dies? #happyplants #pinkquill #newgrowth #bromeliad #plantsmakepeoplehappy

@ForestDweller Mac! Yep, those are pups, and mama Pink Quill is officially entering her retirement phase while the kids raid her closet and move in rent free. π Bromeliads like this one are drama queens with a twist they bloom once, go out with a bang (that purple flower was her Oscar moment), and then slowly pass the torch to their pupsβ¦ who, surprise, often pop right out of the center like an awkward encore no one saw coming. Totally normal! As they grow, you can wait till theyβre about 1/3 the size of mom before separating them or leave them and watch the jungle take over. Either way, donβt prune yet let mom fade on her own terms. She gave her all for that bloom.
