Alocasia help!!!

I rescued this elephant ear plant from Lowe’s with no visible pests or issues at all other than the damage to one of the leaves pictured. I’m not sure why it has started to lean down or droop unless it’s because the stalk is too heavy for the plant to hold up? Any suggestions? Also- should I cut off the damaged leaf? It doesn’t bother me any. Should I cut off both end leaves and leave the two newest? Also- why are the leaves curled up? I’m not sure what to do! 10” pot with drainage
Last watered 1 year ago
How long have you had it? They take a little time adjusting to the new environment. They don’t like cold, love light, and don’t like to sit in water. So as long as it’s in a pot with drainage, the soil isn’t wet, and it’s warm and sunny, it should probably turn around. I don’t typically remove limbs until they turn yellow.
@Corinne I’ve had it a week now. Another app said something about repotting bigger and I thought about maybe doing that since the roots were filling at least the bottom half of the pot when I repotted after I got it. (Didn’t even think maybe it could want more space) when I did take it out of the first pot it was drenched so I couldn’t exactly see how the roots were in the pot bc it was just gush and the plant came right out the soil. Do you recommend trying to repot it into a bigger pot before trying anything else?
@HeroBurlemarx Welcome to Greg! Let's see if I can help you out ☺️ @Corinne is right about a taro's needs. The plant card says it's in a pot with no drainage. It definitely needs to be in a pot with drainage. They don't like wet feet at all. When their roots are sitting in wet soil it'll cause the leaves to turn yellow and also cause them to curl up like yours are doing. If it was me, I'd repot it in a pot with drainage, check the roots for signs of rot and remove any that are black and mushy. I use regular ground cinnamon on them to prevent anything spreading. It's a natural fungicide.
I think that should fix your baby up real quick ☺️ hope this helps and Good Luck πŸ€πŸ’š
I guess it technically does have drainage holes since it’s in a nursery pot that’s set inside a decorative one. I need to change that lol. However, I really appreciate the advice!! Thank you both so much. I’ll definitely get on that first thing tomorrow. Any suggestions on soil?
@HeroBurlemarx I like to use this stuff and my plants seem to love it. It can be a little pricey if you’ve got a big plant. I’ve also used just organic indoor soil and mixed in peat. Most important is that the soil doesn’t retain moisture to the point of being wet. Also, these guys like tight spaces so judge the pot size based on the root ball 😊 https://a.co/d/8ShR2BX
@Corinne thank you so much!
@HeroBurlemarx I use some peat based potting soil and add perlite at a ratio of about 1 part perlite to 3 parts soil.
@HeroBurlemarx when you water it do you make sure there's no water standing in the deco pot?
This plant needs humidity. It’s a tropical plant. If your heat is on, all humidity is being sucked out of the air. You can use liquid copper on the foliage to stop the disease. Use liquid copper when you next water. Keep using it but do not include it when you fertilize. Skip it on that watering day. Then go back to adding it on other watering days. Any new foliage should look better as long as you use it to get rid of the fungus in the plant’s vascular system.
