Propigating/dividing staghorn fern
I've had this staghorn board mounted outside. It's grown a little baby (for lack of a better word. Offshoot?). Can I remove it from the mother plant and attach it to its own board? #staghornfern #newgrowth #propagationstation #plantsmakepeoplehappy #happyplants #plantaddict #

Absolutely! Just take care to mount it to a secure base. I tether my new productions with fishing line to hold them in place while they establish themselves in their new home. You can then mount it to a tree or hang it from a limb or hook. They love diluted fish emulsion and warm humid temperatures. .
My god woman, what the hell are they attached to ? lol! Iβve never seen one like that with so many leaves. But to be honest I havenβt seen a lot of those ferns. That is so amazing Thank you for sharing that. Do you live in a warm climate where he can be outside year round ? Sheβs purty!π±π₯°β€οΈππ€ͺ
@SportyWhiskfern Yes! They are hanging from the tree limb by large chains. Iβve had to increase the chain size as theyβve grown. I live on the water in Crystal River FL. It rarely freezes long enough to hurt them. They are so happy and trive so well here! I have them scattered all around my house , but these are my largest. The one on the left is actually an Elkhorn Fern (15 years old) and the right a Staghorn (30+ years old). Both have birthed many babies π
Ooo! As fellow floridian @SuperGardenia, have you tried mounting and growing any inside your house? Or do you think it's not humid enough? I have a bunch mounted outside in various places and to various mediums but I've never tried inside. We keep it pretty cold in the house bc we're wimpy.
@Katiekinns No, I do think it would be too dry.
They look huge and happy. I just saw one at the nursery and I was tempted but I wanted my northfolk island pine which was a wish list plant. I didnβt feel confident enough to get one. Iβm glad I didnβt now because I live in Maine and he canβt live outside here apparently and inside is apparently to dry. But I did sure enjoy seeing yours. Thanks for sharing yours.
