How To Keep Pets Away From Plants?
I was wondering what you guys do to deter your overly curious pets from chewing your plants. My Mainecoon loves plants to the point she will do anything and everything to play with them. Here’s what she did to my poor ZZ along with the culprit herself plotting her next move😈 I made sure to keep the ZZ far and high enough away for her but apparently she can jump really high if she wants to 😔 She did not get sick because she didn’t eat it, but she did chew on it—not one but four leaves! #PetsAndPlants #PetsOfGreg #HappyPlants #PlantsMakePeopleHappy #PlantAddict #PlantTherapy #CatsOfGreg #CatAteMyPlant #Orangegrass

That is such a GORGEOUS cat 😍 I was told putting lemon/orange peels around or on top of pots & soil works.. I don’t know if it does cause I have never tried it.. I did however used to put tin foil in places I didn’t want my cats, now that worked especially on the kitchen counter! They hate the noise & feeling.. hope you find a solution, by her face she doesn’t look too concerned 🤭
@botanicalarts @botanicalarts Oh!That’s a great idea! I do buy them cat grass from the grocery store, but I have another cat who loves eating that only, lol. Coco (the Mainecoon) doesn’t seem to be interested in it much. I can try alfalfa and see how she likes it. Thanks!
@botanicalarts I got a litter box with a fake palm tree on it, Coco started destroying it. She loves anything that’s green… I also had a palm tree that she never left alone. I had to give it away. She definitely likes plants with dangling leaves, but she also just does not discriminate. The irony is that I gave her leaves from my pachira aquatica which are not poisons, and guess what? She was not interested! Instead, she cried to have a look (bite) at my lucky bamboo 😂
@Artistic_Stoner Lmao, thank you, and no, she has no care in the world 😂🤦♀️ She’s the only cat who is absolutely determined to chew on my plants, lol. I have two others who couldn’t care less. I’ll try aluminum foil! I hope she dislikes the touch and sound! I could give orange peels a try, but she doesn’t try to sniff the soil. So, I don’t know if it would be effective. Oh she's GORGEOUS! (& Clearly knows it! 😹). I also grow cat grass for mine, though only Annie (13) has ever even looked twice at any of my plants (Rosy, 21 and her sister Beany who we lost last year never cared at all about them!) and even then it was only the spider plant... Which is a mild hallucinogen for fees apparently 🤣 maybe explains why she likes it! Lol
I have LOTS of toxic plants (in varying degrees) but thankfully they've never been bothered about them 💚😅 the only plants I won't have inn the house is lilies, because they're deadly, rather than just toxic, and the kitties don't even have to bite them to get sick!

@JenniB81 Lol, thank you. She definitely knows how to get what she wants 😂 I have the most trouble keeping her away from the plants. You are so lucky to have none of the kitties be interested in plants. The funny thing is, Coco doesn’t care all that much for cat grass that I get her from the store. Idk why. Her sister loves it, but Coco loses interest quickly. And, she is not really all that interested in cat grass to begin with. She’s the same with catnip—no reaction. She LOVES my plants that are toxic for her 🤦♀️ She walks away from plants that aren’t toxic. Idk what it is with her, lmao. Rebellious maybe? 😂 I’ll try growing wheat grass and someone suggested alfa Alfa and see if that gets her interest. In the meantime, aluminum foil it is! 🤣 Oh, I didn’t know lilies were deadly to pets 😱 thanks for the info—I appreciate it!

Maybe she'd like a spider plant? 😜 Annie (the Spider Muncher) isn't interested in catnip either strangely... In fact none of mine have gone for it in the past either! But MINT... They go batty for the smell of it! (I think it might be related to catnip actually?).
My eldest, Rosy, was always crazy about scrunched up tinfoil too! Lol all the fancy cat toys in the world couldn't tempt her .. but a bit of tinfoi?! Just the ticket! Lmao 🤣 I used to scrunch a bit around a long piece of string so I didn't have to go fetch it for her all the time 😹😹 her daughter Lucy used to fetch like a dog though! It was so funny.

@JenniB81 You wouldn’t believe! The first time I took her to the vet, the vet comes back and tells me that she’s an escape artist, and that him and his team had to run around to catch her. And then, he finally asked her politely to get in her carrier, and she did. Lol, he was cracking up telling me all about, and I couldn’t believe she was such a free spirit with people she’s never met before unlike my other cats who are terrified of anyone or any place new, lol. Are spider plants toxic to them? I could get her a spider plant? 👀 Wait, yours like mint? 🤨 cats are so strange, I swear 😂 I can try mint with mine too! Omg, tinfoil seems to be fun for them… idk man, they love anything that’s trash like a piece of paper or string. I get them toys—all kinds—and they are like “yeah, I’ll play with them if I feel like it”. But trash, they run around the house batting trash around 🤣 That’s so cute and hilarious your Lucy fetches! I’d love for mine to do that too—save me the trouble 😂 Omg! Cuteness overload! Just look at them! The upside down one looks like my Momo. And, I’m sorry for your lose. Losing a fur baby is never easy. Your Rosy looks a little mischievous. Momo likes laying like that too 😆💕 must pet! 😍 Wow, I’m so impressed by how well they seem. You’ve taken such good care of them! Which makes me wonder, what exactly do you do to keep them so healthy? I have no doubt they have lived their best lives, and I’m honestly so impressed!
Aww Momo is such a cutie!! 🥰 I can just imagine Coco giving the vet staff the runaround and then when the vet finally decided to try getting polite about it going "ok then... Since you asked nicely!" 😹😹 I swear some cats understand EVERY SINGLE THING we're saying to them! 😂 Annie is a bit like that... Which makes it more frustrating when I tell her off for bullying Rosy (which she does SHAMELESSLY!! Rosy is just too laid back to smack her one! 😂) and she completely ignores me.
She thinks she's my personal bodyguard though lol she was half feral when we took her in (my neighbour got her from a local rescue and she was always a bit crazy, he passed away very suddenly and his family wouldn't take her and we couldn't bear for her to go back to a shelter, so we brought her upstairs... Not knowing that she HATED other cats! 🤦♀️) and she still has her moments of just being straight up crazy! 🙀 Her trash obsession is plastic bags! Lol she doesn't eat them... She climbs inside them and jumps out and bites your ankles when you walk by 😹😹
I can't really take credit for the old ladies lol wish I could! Because I live in a second floor flat in a city, they're housecats, which I'm sure has helped! But... Get this.. from the day Rosy and Beany were dressed at 18mths, to the day we took beany in to get diagnosed (she had CKD and a heart defect, which was what took her from us in the end)... Neither of them once need a vet in EIGHTEEN YEARS. that must be some kinda record! Lol
Spider plants aren't at all toxic for kitties, but they are mildly hallucinogenic apparently! A bit like catnip, so maybe that why the wee tearaway likes it so much lol. I hardly see her touch the cat grass but she HAS stopped destroying my spider plant so.. I guess it's working?! Haha
The mint thing is weird isn't it?! I noticed one day the both Beany and Rosy got awfully interested in the smell of toothpaste! So decided to test it... I could be seeing but I think mint and catnip are related? But show them catnip and they walk away from it 🤷♀️ like I said, they just like being difficult! 🤣 xx

@JenniB81 Oh, ikr?! They understand so well! Annie is a bully? 😅 Why does she bully Rosy? Rosy looks like a sweetie! Coco is the laid back one in our household, lol. The one that’s quite short-tempered would be Momo. She slaps anyone and everyone without hesitation. She’s only patient around me. It was driving me crazy to type in the little text box on the app because it scrolls back to the beginning of the box so often, I decided to type out of my response else 😾 and copy paste 😅
I forgot to mention, Peanut, my other cat, is like your Beany—my shadow, lol. Isn’t it adorable how they always want to be wherever you are? I just love that. They make such great companions. And funnily enough, she was feral when I adopted her. She squeaks too—she’s a Balinese. She always has SO much to say, lol. It was a very kind thing for you guys to have done to take in Beany when her human died 💗 You mentioned that Beany would swat at your ankles while hiding in plastic bags right? Lmao, hilarious. And, my Momo does something similar where she likes to lay in water bottle packages—you know the packaging that has plastic covering where like a dozen plastic water bottles are inside? She gets inside those and tries to smack any benign passerby’s ankles or her sisters, lol. She’s so good about entertaining herself 🤣
I have a question about Beany and Rosy. You said they didn’t need to go to the vet pretty much their entire lives, right? So, they didn’t need rabies and distemper vaccines? I swear every vet I’ve taken my cats to would recommend me taking them back for wellness checks every year. And when I take them, they have to be vaccinated every year. My cats are indoor cats, so I don’t even know the point of all that. And I’ve met plenty of indoor cats that don’t go to the vet regularly for check-ups like humans do. What is your approach to this?
You know what? I’m getting a spider plant! Coco has never experienced getting high because she just does not react at all to catnip. I feel like she’s missing out, you know? 😂 The mint thing is strange to me because I’ve always heard or read people saying that strong scents deter cats, but yours love it 😅 I’ll give that a try too. I just looked up if mint is related to catnip, and they are! Could explain why! I mean, not all cats react to catnip.
