Broken stem!

I was repotting Sterling (a rehab plant I bought from Facebook marketplace) and using a cococoir pole for the first time. He hadn’t had anything to grab in his original pot so I was trying to gently wrap him when I heard a snap! His stem broke partially in half! Chat GPT said it can heal from this by callousing over so I taped it together to keep the break from getting worse and wrapped it with plant Velcro to keep it against the pole. Has anyone had luck with something like this??

Philodendrons are super tough plants and yours will be great.

Did that piece break completely off? If not, you can use that green velcro plant tape to wrap around the stem and it’ll grow back together. You could try any kind of plant tie actually, but the velcro kind is cheap and works really well. It should be kept somewhat firmly together but also allowing the plant to move as it grows. I’d put some cinnamon on the cut area to help prevent infection.

If the stem did break completely, or if you just don’t want to mess with taping it, you could cut it, then trim the ends so it’s a clean cut, put cinnamon on end of stem, then pot the broken stem piece in its own container with potting mix. You could also grow cuttings or leaves in water alone. So amazing, right? Plants are like super heroes. And you really couldn’t have picked a better plant to begin your growing experience with! You will probably have parts of this plant for many more years!
Omg you mentioned the Velcro plant tape like ten times but I still spaced that! Sorry!

How old is this plant? How big is it? It’s hard to tell from this picture but it’s in a small pot. Is it trailing a lot? They don’t usually need support from a coir pole until they’re bigger, but you’d know best.
I recently partially snapped two branches on two my new plants. They were the prettiest leaves-- of course. So I made splints with straws that I split down one side, and then popped them on the stem. Works well.
@LaneyLichen no idea how old it is. I just bought it maybe 4 days ago. Here’s a pic of it gently stretched outβ€”it’s pretty bald.
It looks really good! It’ll heal fast and be fine! It’s a healthy looking plant though!!
