New Hoya Leaf Banana Yellow

So my Lisa Australis has a new leaf. It came in pink like normal but now the variegation that is normally whitish, is banana yellow? Any thoughts?. I have been trying a new fertilizer this week but only 1/5 of recommended dose.

Hey Samantha!
Is it soft/squishy?
@PlantMompy Nope, really firm. I keep hoping the yellow color will fade, but it actually seems brighter. And it's not like a brownish yellow but a bright, banana laffy Taffy yellow.
Ugh it weirds me out, the only times I’ve ever have new leaves turn that shade they have ended up dropping.. but they were never quite this along and the stem still looks healthy green. πŸ€” Did you recently water it and it turned yellow? Kind of curious if it’s a watering related issue as the leaf is slightly wonky shaped too.
@Alinaa I watered her Aug 28th, Sept 7th, Sept 17th and then Sept 29th
@Bunny413 it’s hard to say just on dates alone, it’s really particular to your environment and substate. I don’t have have one of these, but I know people say these are a bit on the picky side and don’t want to dry out so much. Are you waiting for the leaves to get very soft when you water?
@Alinaa She is in a well draining mix and teeny pot, so I usually go by the weight of the pot and if her leaves have started to soften, so right now I'm watering typically every 7-10 days, depending on how hot it's been.
My best guesses would be got a bit too dry recently, since the dates got a bit longer on the recent cycles. Or some nutrient problem. Those are both things that can throw weird colors or deformed leaves.
@Alinaa I'm wondering if maybe the fertilizer is too strong, even though I cut it?
I don’t think so because you cut it so significantly, unless you’re using some really strong outdoor garden stuff which I don’t think you. Could be something weird with some ph fluctuations since you changed fert while it was putting out the new leaf, but I feel a lot of those things take some time to show up. Things like watering, root, environmental stuff shows up a lot faster.
@Alinaa it has to be something recent but I also just had to cut off an oddly yellow leaf on my Begonia. The only other thing that I changed is using Silica but I also cut that dosage by over half. Maybe the two together?
I don’t use silica, but I know everyone mentions you should add it to your water first, wait 20-30 minutes, then mix other nutrients. Without following the steps it will cause nutrient lockout. I also don’t ph balance, but I know silica can effect it greatly as well.

When I was looking up if I should use this with Hoya, I didn’t really find much info about it’s value, as opposed to in the aroid community. The little bit I did find people recommended introducing it slowly and some I saw quite a few posts about yellowing.
@Alinaa I had read about the adding it first and waiting, so I did do that, but I think I am going to just cut it out. I want to do anything I can to benefit my plants, but I don't have the time to do lab experiments every time I water. πŸ€£πŸ˜΅β€πŸ’«
Yea I totally get you. I think it’s good to only change one thing at a time for a few weeks to get an idea if it is helping or hurting.

It is probably useful for other types of plants if you have some aroids!
