Planting outdoors with my Grow Bags

I have been racking my brain trying to come up with something to put under my 15 gallon grow bags that are outside. I really like the idea of grow bags. I have never used them before but I’m pretty stoked about it. I am suddenly a bit concerned about them sitting directly right on the ground. I can’t believe the price of a 20 inch saucer. I mean I can do it, but it’s still insane. lol. I also don’t like the idea of a saucer and I was trying to think of something different, cool, a bit boho maybe. I have two different gladiolus bulbs so far….tulips, anemone. More on the way. but if anyone has any ideas of how I could get them off the ground just a tad or maybe is it OK for them to sit on the ground?? I appreciate anyone’s input 🀩 #HappyPlants #growbags #PlantAddict #OutdoorGrowing #PlantsMakePeopleHappy #GregGang #NewGrowth #Gladiolus #imagination οΏΌ
Last year I grew potatoes in 10 gallon grow bags. I used the plastic saucers and some dollar tree saucers on wheels. They both worked well. This year I'm going to use the circular pavers and see how that goes. Potatoes in grow bags were awesome and this year I am going to try sweet potatoes in one too. What are planning to grow in yours?
@CheyenneRed that’s awesome. Ok. Thank you. I’ll look around for those. That sounds so fun and yummy what you are doing. I am not doing any vegetables this year. I have just a ton of different flowers and plants I’m going to do. I may do strawberries if I can get my kiddo into at least that.
@Keysgirl0179 I have also only known grow bags as being ideal for potatoes and it is something I have been considering doing as I get many potatoes I never eat through them in time so at the moment they just go into composting and worm food. Strawberries or even tomatoes might be other great ideas, so long as the soil used is suitable and you keep the water up to them.
Hi! I’ve done basil in these too and just let them go crazy, but pop off the blooms so they don’t get bitter. The only thing if they sit on the ground for months and months: baby roots will start to grow through the bottom.
I use mine for so many things! Lilac babies, elephant ears, tomatoes, you name it!

I keep mine on the ground and on my stairs. The only "issue" is keeping them moist when it's really warm.

Have fun with it!
Yay! Sounds good. I’ve read they are really mainly for vegetables but you can grow anything in them so I’m experimenting. We’ll see what happens :)
