How do I take care of my #AirPlant(s)? πΏπͺ΄β¨
Hi friends! π«Άπ½ wanted to make a quick post to ask yβall about airplants! Iβve been invested in them for quite awhile and I was gifted a cute airplant setup by plant bestie @ShinyBudew π
I know absolutely nothing about them, other than the fact that they donβt need soil to survive! Help me out #GregGang ππ½
Which ones do I have? Can anyone #PlantID these precious babies?
How do I go about watering them? They feel somewhat soft and unsure how to tell when they need to be watered!
Should I mist them since my room gets dry/cold? Or is misting bad for these babies since theyβre velvety/soft?
Thanks in Advance πππ

@dreamlettuce I have 4 that are all growing and doing well and I recently picked up 2 tiny ones. Someone else can help with the ID, but Greg calls my big ones Blushing Bride Airplant. This is what I do, as told to me by the plant lady running the plant shop where I get them in Tipp City. Once a week I soak them for half an hour in reverse osmosis water. You can use anything but tap water. She told me to make sure the root doesnβt get wet! I have heard from others we donβt have to do that, but I still do, just in case. Then after half hour upside down in the water (the plants, not me) I take them out, shake them off, and let them dry upside down. I put something absorbent them, like a towel. When dry, I put them back in their containers. They have grown quite a bit. You donβt have to do anything else. The ones in the small glass are the 2 new ones. Iβve just soaked them once so far. I soak 2 at a time in red plastic cups you see everywhere. Then, just enjoy!
Hi! I soak mine once a week, and mist them pretty much every day with RO water. They can start to get crispy if theyβre too dry so just watch them and theyβll tell you what they need! Donβt care about light so thatβs not an issue. In my mind theyβre pretty low maintenance. And yay planty presents! π±βοΈβ€οΈ
Idk the names but I do know that I just now got to where I don't have to mist them and can put them completely in water for like 2 minutes maybe and then when I take them out I place them upside down on a paper towel in the windowsill so the air and light will help dry them. I did actually leave them in water for like... 4 hours once and surprisingly the did not die... Idk wtf is up with that but I'm totally kool with it if they (fyi I wasn't nor am I totally kool with it. I was a nervous wreck then and now I watch them like a hawk) lol give them lots of light and just let them do their thang. I do know that the little ones have the CUTEST little blooms!
@KrunchyWrapz hey! So now that you only soak and donβt mist, how often do you soak?
@RealSimpleMama I just wait until it starts feeling dry and crispy. Sometimes 1 time a week sometimes 2 weeks will go buy.
The only thing I do different than others on here is I try to mist mine once a week with air plant food... @dreamlettuce

@FirstCanna Ooh do you have one you like? I keep meaning to order some (and more air plants!)
@RealSimpleMama Thank you and @AC73LoveCats so much!! They were starting to feel crispy so I went ahead and let them sit in filtered water for 30-40 mins, gently placed them on a towel (upside down) after carefully shaking them a little and then dry for 3-5 hours.
Theyβre now back in their enclosure πΏπ±β¨ Iβll keep an eye on how they do in the glass terrarium. If they get crispy too fast, I may mist them once a day. If theyβre completely fine with a good water dunk every week or two, then that is also perfectly fine with me! π @KrunchyWrapz
Just want to make sure I know what Iβm doing with these plants! Donβt want to kill them π₯Ήπ

@dreamlettuce OOH THAT LOOKS SO COOL
@dreamlettuce I love the setting! Bill them? Oh, you mean kill them.
They are hard to kill, if they get their weekly watering. They donβt seem to care, about anything else!

@AC73LoveCats haha yes, it autocorrected to βbill themβ π€£π€£ thank you so much for the encouragement and advice! π

@FirstCanna Ok I feel dumb asking this question but I am also a new air plant parent. Which end do I mist with the plant food? The green or the butt?? ππ I have 2 different types- one with roots.
The green end @LauraLynne
