My Platinum never threw a tantrum since i got him in August, and i only lost my first leaf via retirement last month. He grew 3-4 new leaves by then. Personally i never changed anything since i got him in August. The soil is considered terrible to most [coco peat and sand maybe], is quite root bound, has fungus gnats but never gave me any trouble.

I have him in mostly indirect southeast window, temps rise to at most 28-30Β°C in day with a low 22Β°C at night [AC air, so quite dry]. Avg humidity is 83-86%. I think the issue is the WINDOW. South is a no-no for alocasias, even a 30Β° orientation towards to east or west is beneficial. Best, i feel, is east window. Manage humidity well, and you'll get a happy plant too
They are really in general just finicky little pains in the butt!

They need quite a bit of humidity or else they will droop….

Fluctuations in temperature droop…

Too much water droop…
Allow it to dry out between watering.

Lack of nutrients, you guessed it droop…..
Be sure to fertilize it.

Not enough light…. Take a guess?

…… YEP droop again!

It is common for them to only have 2 leaves at a time. They will usually drop the a leaf shortly after they get a new one. It will only sustain more then 2 or 3 under ideal conditions which is doable but nearly impossible in indoor climates.

So, chances are you are doing most things right and you just have a temperamental child on your hands. That is just the way it tends to go with these plants. As long as you are doing you best to provide all of these things. If you can afford a humidifier it will appreciate it and also help deter spider mites which are incredible common for these. They are spider mite magnets so keep an eye out for any itty bitty webbing.

They are beautiful plants, I have one myself, only one I will ever buy because they are so picky and I live in a very dry climate which is not ideal for them. Even though I have over 300 very healthy happy thriving plants. πŸͺ΄ My alocasia is my problem child! It’s gorgeous, don’t get me wrong just finicky plant! Good thing they have beautiful huge leaves when they grow up, I guess they are worth it. πŸ’•πŸͺ΄
I own a couple of alocasias. The exceptions are the ones that can tolerate more sunlight, but those that can't take a longer time to show any significant improvement, and even the healthy ones can be pretty stagnant. So, the unhealthy ones tend to look bad before they look better. My take is that as long as the plant isn't declining majorly, it is fine, and you'll have to wait a bit for it to improve.
@Heavenlyfran they’re also prone to fungus and rot. Make sure you have a chunky airy soil that allows great drainage. I attached a pic for you to see how mine is. I also use a preventative at home spray for my alocasia that keeps infections away. Here it is, you can also add a few drops tea trea or use cinnamon oil in place of boiling the sticks. It helps keep their soil fresh to keep fungus at bay.
Some alocasias are just tricky. I have actually killed off all the leaves (or all but one leaf) on several alocasias only to bring them back from the dead and have them get healthy. I think over or under watering is the most common problem. At my house the best scenario is to place it in a window that gets the brightest indirect light possible, make sure to have chunky soil mix and well draining pot with lots of holes for water/air, and not over water it! lol I love the orchid pots from repot me. I use them on everything now. Picture of moody alocasia to show my support for your little guy. 🦎
@TheOddAsity thank you so much for the recipe. I’m gonna try it.
